A great tip to maximise your time there, without banking:
Either use Polypore Staff or Slayer dart with high defence armour to decrease the damage you take from the brothers/inside the crypt.
Now for this to work i would suggest the player to be on Ancient Magiks & presuming you are 95 prayer for Soulsplit; doesn't make a huge difference if you don't have curse prayers.
The runes you usually get awarded from the crypt chest are bloods, deaths, minds and chaos - you will be needing the blood and deaths.
These runes are used to cast the 'blood' spells on the Ancient spell book, which heal your health.
When you are low food and supplies simply find your crypt passage and heal on the creatures down below, using soulsplit and a blood spell of your choice.
From my experience i can last 10 trips with only 4 rocktail and 7 prayer potions, hope this helps others.
Goodluck with the x2 drops !

This is how I have been doing barrows since 2005, It is the best for new players
D H A R O K S always first. He can hit hard and you can have fresh prayer for him
and if you get him as tunnel be very wary and always top your pray up above 150 so you don't get a nasty shock.

Just some tips...
- Now after the Barrows Graphical update, spades are not needed as spades are placed upon the mounds.
-The Barrows brother are located:
Verac top left mound (looking North).
Dharok top right mound
Ahrim middle mound
Torag bottom left mound
Guthan bottom right mound
Karil is the most southern mound
- Akrisae the Doomed lies with Verac
-Kill Six brothers before entering the tunnels, six is the max multiplier for obtaining barrows loot.
-A cheap and effective way to slay the barrows is to dress in black dhide, use a soul wars or other cape, and use a black salamander for it's magic attack. Bring a whip or other weapon to switch to kill Ahrim/ Karil.
-Higher level players can use any melee chaotic weapon, bandos, soul wars cape, and a Dragon defender/Dragonfire shield.
-If you wish to use magic to defeat these foes, use a polypore staff as a main cast while being on the Ancient Magicks spellbook and use spells from the book as needed. Bring a melee weapon to finish off Ahrim/Karil.
-Complete Ritual of The Mahjarrat! You will find it worth your time because a New barrows brother, Akrisae the Doomed is unlocked, who has loot of magical armor with a wonderful prayer bonus. This brother will use protection prayers to block your attacks so bring two styles of attack. Melee and Range work best for this brother because his mage def. is high being a mage.

I hope this hasn't been suggested yet:
Bring prayer renewal potions.
In the barrows your prayer will constantly be drained making it necessary to drink a lot of prayer potions. If you use a prayer renewal potion you will keep getting tiny amounts of prayer points even after it has drained allowing you to flick your prayers on and off with every hit. This can be used for healing (soul split), boosting your damage (piety/turmoil) or protection from your opponents hits (protect/deflect). Using this technique you only need like two or three doses of prayer potion for dharok/karil and then you do the rest with the free points you get from the prayer renewal.
It might only work for the higher level players out here, but I hope it helps :-)

Always make sure you have enough prayer potions with you, especially because barrows has a prayer draining effect.
Use the drakan's medaillon to get to barrows quickly, you can use the medaillon to go to burgh de rott too, and then you are only steps away from a bank.

1. A great way to approach the Barrows is using Void Knight armour. Obtainable from Pest Control and Conquest, it offers moderate bonuses against all 3 combat styles, and simply changing the helmet you are wearing - magic, ranged, or melee, offers significant combat bonuses if you are wearing the full set. This setup saves inventory space, and the elite version of the Void Knight armour gives a good prayer bonus!
2. Watch out when you open the Rewards Chest - there's a chance that some of the rewards might be dropped on the floor if you don't have enough inventory spaces. Always check this, or you could end up not realising you've found rewards worth millions!

@noobrngpure1 (pg 2) who are you and what are you doing with my rsn
OT: Black salamanders are a great way to use all 3 styles easily at the barrows. You use the magic style on all of the melee brothers and the ranged style on Ahrim. The magic and melee styles both work well on Karil.

Use magic on Karil. It seems somewhat counter intuitive since he is in ranging armour which of course gives a high magic bonus. However, weakness to mage, with the barrows brothers anyway, depends on magic level. Karil has an incredibly low magic level, renderring him weak to it. This should be helpful since with the release of the Polypore staff, magic is a good option for all of the brothers, with the exception of Ahrim. For Ahrim, I'd advise using a rapier, or range. Don't mage him, though, since he of course has a high magic level, making him very magic-resistant.

1.Dont risk dying, its a waste of your time. If you have no more prayer or food dont try to out hit any of them. They will most likely kill you, especially dharok. Its quicker to teleport and get more food then to die, go get your items back, then teleport to get more food anyway.
2. If you dont get items keep trying. It is not as rare to get an item as you think. Statistically speaked you will more times then not get an item 1 in every 10-15 chests you open. Dont let it discourage you if you get nothing a few times in a row.
