the MOST important tip for anyone going to barrows is.....

do not have a laggy computer, many times ive been there lagged and almost died due to prayer running out or them getting some nice hits (karil always seems to get me)

it doesnt matter about high stats, high defence or which method you use, they only determin the length and speed of trips.

1.Pray melee at dharoks and watch your prayer.
2.After dharoks go to karil and pot up super strenght/attack before killing him.
3.Always spec ahrim for a fast kill with the best weapon you can affort.
4.If you can use vecna skull use it before going down to verac and don't forget to use your super defence at this point because of verac's rapid high hitting attack.
5. After verac go to torag, search the sarco and now walk to the bush in the corner and then back to the stairs. He'll then become safespotted and no pray is needed.
The rest of the brothers are easy and no prayer should be required.
To JMODS (Suggestion)
My suggestion is to make barrows in 2 modes. One easy (to start out with)
and one high (for the high lvl players).
In low level mode, it's like the current barrows but in hard mode each and every brother have a chance of dropping a piece of armour instantly after the fight.
This would be very good now when all barrows armour is such low price and the minigame is very easy for the players with max armour (virtus+torva).
I hope this could bring bang a bit of the old days in barrows when a dharok's helm was worth ~10m. I remember the feeling getting one at that time. When dh helms are worth ~2m and all other pieces are low priced I wouldn't say it's as exciting as in the old days.
Cheers

^ Your idea for a higher leveled barrows in which the brothers can drop their armor will not make the prices of armor go up. It will actually have the opposite effect and cause the prices to crash. It is simply the rule of supply and demand, there is currently more supply than demand and by adding more supply without also raising the demand the prices will drop further.

The new graphical rework has added more demand for the Barrows items. Currently there is also a raise in supply because many people are at barrows trying to get a visage. After the special chest loot is removed tomorrow you will see less people at barrows. The supply will lower before the demand and prices will raise again. They will eventually stabilize again but i don't see them ever returning to the prices they were years ago.

1: Use the combat traingle, the four melee brothers are weak to magic, the mage is weak to ranged and the rnager is weak to melee.
2: When you've finished in aid of the myreque, you can bank in Burgh de rot, which means you can travel there without any risk, then grab your stuff in the village and break those ghasty brothers.

A good set of weapons to use are salamanders, you don't need to use a black one, red salamanders can be just as useful and actually, their ammo is much cheaper than black salamanders'.
If you've never used salamanders before, they take varying herb tars, for black salamanders Harralander Tar is required. For one run through the brothers, you may need between 50-120 Tar, without using ammo killing creatures in the tunnels.
The salamanders' 3 styles allow for handling all brothers without needing to switch weapon, and provided you have a decent magic bonus/level (70required, +10 or above magic bonus) the melee brothers will die quickly, with Karil and Ahrim dieing fairly quickly too.
In summary, my tip is "Use black or red salamanders, their multiple combat triangle options make killing the brothers much faster due to not needing to switch weapons, and are cheaper options than using magic often."

Also, when fighting Akrisae the salamander really shines, as it allows all 3 styles to be altered between quickly, making his prayers useless.

Part one: preparation and arrival
The barrows minigame is one that requires a bit of preparation.
equipment for the fights should be as follows (these are the lower-tier items)
-rune platebody and platelegs to survive the run thru the tunnels
-mystic top and bottom (if possible use a saradomin/guthix/zamarok cape acquired when dueling in the Mage arena)
-(optional) rangers prefer a black d-hide top and bottom with a salamander or bow. this is not recommended because of the melee brother ratio (4 melee brothers)
-a whip, dragon scimitar, staff of any element, crystal bow, crossbow (rune recommended) can be used to fight the brothers. arrows and bolts should be top quality (mithril are cheap both arrow-wise and bolt-wise) magic spells to be used are the best you have. for one in the regular spellbook: blast spells (fire/earth advised) or wave spells (any of these) will do. you can bring snare-type spells if you want to save on prayer potions, but be careful of the damage. Ancient magics have it easy in this area. The freezing spells of the ancient spellbook work wonders, damaging and freezing the melee brothers in place and making your fight alot easier. it is economically advised using the strongest single-target ice spell you have.
-food and prayer potions depend on your style (regular magic or ancient magic). the higher food is recommended for emergencies (lobsters+). prayer potions should be minimum 2 (recommended 4-6 if new or not using ancient magic to freeze brothers in place)
- a spade is used to dig into the crypts, but if you forget one, you can buy one from the NPC that runs around.
- teleports should be one-click uses.teleport tabs to any city, an explorer's ring 3 with the cabbage port, ring of life, ammulet of glory, are recommended.
proceeding to the barrows minigame is a bit of a trek. if no ancient magic, one must travel from Varrock, thru the Salve river, thru Canfis and Mort myre to arrive there.
NOTE: use the boat in Mort myre to save time

Part 2: the crypts and trek to the chest
there are 5 essential brothers that all players can fight. NOTE: while in the crypts or tunnel, 100 prayer is deducted frequently. do not be caught off guard and let your prayer run out mid-fight
The brother that is recommended first is Dharok. he'll be the brother in the bottom left, and his special abilty allows him to damage more whenever his health is lower.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: use protection from melee. even if using ancient magic, Dharok can become unfrozen and easily two-shot a player. dharok is best killed with magic.
Verac is recommended next. beware of this brother: his ability allows him to sometimes hit thru all defenses (prayer too). pray melee and use magic to down this brother quickly
Kharil or Ahrim is debated as third to kill, the first being ranging and the second being magic. pray ranging for the first and magic for the second. fighting Kharil should be done with a good melee weapon. Ahrim is weakest to ranging, and the mithril arrows/bolts should do fine against him. both brothers special abilities do not harm you midfight so I see no need mention them.
Guthan while mentioned last, is not the least by far. DO NOT let this boss get any hits on you. his special ability allows him to regain health if he manages to land a strike on you. melee prayer and magic is recommended.
NOTE: one of these brothers will not reveal himself in the crypt. instead it will reveal a tunnel you can enter where the brother can attack you in the tunnel or when you open the chest.
The tunnel is a maze of locked and unlocked doors. proceed to venture around and find the door that you can open but has a puzzle on it. monsters will attack you inside the tunnel so wear melee armor when venturing. solve the puzzle on said door and you can enter to the chest room!
if you have defeated the final brother, open the chest. you can leave the tunnel via the rope u entered, or with a teleport. regardless, enjoy your Barrows victory!

1) Using prayer renewals can allow you to constantly flash soulsplit or protection prayers if you're good at it, restoring more prayer than prayer potions while costing only slightly more and removing the need for actual prayer potions. They last for 5 minutes so if you're fast you'll only use one dose per chest (about 2.5k).
2) Using a polypore staff with good tank armour such as barrows will still hit amazingly through the four melee brothers at a cost of something like 100 gp/cast and 900k for the staff, and having the melee armor will also reduce the need for prayer/food.
3) Skipping the brothers with bad loot and going straight into the tunnel can reduce your time per chest by up to half without reducing the chance of a loot from any of the brothers you HAVE killed, and you still can run into the brothers you haven't killed while in the tunnels. I believe currently the best drops are Ahrims, Karils, and Dharoks, so skipping the other three (or four) is well worth your time.
4) Killing Ahrim last will result in the greatest speed, as if you kill him first he'll end up lowering your stats for the rest of the brothers, although this "tip" is slightly obvious.

ring of wealth for better drops-and patience! Thats what got me a visage. Also...the quest branches of darkmeyer has a reward called drakans medallion. it offers a straight teleport to barrows. If you are a high level...buy monkfish and use a super set,any armor you want and a whip or your choice of weapon. If you are a lower level, ice barrage and blood blitz are a good combo...but also the polypore staff is very effective...just trap the brothers on the other sides of piles of rocks lying around if you see any. Now, the strategy of it! Take out Ahrim right away, as he drains stats. Once you are out of his crypt, drink a restore potion to get your stats back up. Once done, time to use that super set. Now, go in and take on dharok, the second brother you will fight. Make sure to have a spare prayer potion in case you run low. Next, i would normally go to veracs but it does not matter the order after dharok is taken care of. Finally, KILLING THE MONSTERS DON'T INCREASE YOUR CHANCES AT GETTING A OF GETTING A BETTER DROP. They will only increase your runes and bolts racks. That, is the summary of my knowledge on the brothers. Have fun ^.^

For people using the Polypore staff who lag upon entering a crypt and tunnel turn off auto retaliate before entering the tunnel to save charges.
For those who completed Branches of Darkmeyer, start every run by killing Dharok and Karil then whoever, as with doing this you won't need any Prayer potions, one for emergencies i.e Dharok as your tunnel. After each run use your medallion to recharge prayer in Darkmeyer then teleport to Burgh de Rott to restock and bank.
