This sure sounds like a wedge being driven between regular players and pmods.
So much for just being players...

Nah this isn't the idea. If anything I hope this will help create a tighter link in the community

lolwut? No way. Now I can jump onto my main a/c, easily track down a flock of PMods and throw tomatoes at them.
Being serious, I think this is an excellent innovation and a good example to disprove the claim that PMods 'do nothing'. Quite obviously, something positive and fun is being done here.
(Although I did find some of the introductory material a bit 'starchy' - but, it's new. So I'm sure we'll all relax into it).

Hey Mod Jon.
One of the problems Runescape has is grouping of their community, let's take a step back and look at it,
Jagex (for whatever reason) now find people from social media instead of within the game and recruit them as "Community Champions" to quote Balance.
Non social media users (like myself) will never have a glimmer of a chance of becoming a pmod unless we jump on the bandwagon of social media.
I can rattle off about 20 different "groups" within the community (maxed, comped, skiller, pvper, pvmer, pmod, fmod, dual-mod, jmod, staker, pure etc etc etc...) and hosting pmod ran events is just going to let everyone know (once again) that pmods are not the same as regular players.
The last thing the community needs is knowing that Jagex are driving the wedge deeper to make the split greater between pmods and us "regular" players.

TeaCat
would like to inform you that we are a herd she is training.
Also, perhaps there will be a chance for tomatoes at the
Whatever Floats your Goat
scavenger hunt, which is but one activity that promises to be good fun!
We are also looking to bring some fun to the forums, with
Whatever Floats Your Goat
Holiday Shenanigans in mid-February. JMods, FMods and PsP PMods have been polled and have some wacky opinions on which holiday is best.
The first page of this thread is great for keeping everyone up-to-date on fun. I know you've bookmarked it

I completely understand your concerns, and this thread (although it may not seem like it to you) is mean to try and group these communities together.
I do agree, a lot of people are now on social media, and places like Twitter and Reddit see a lot of RS traffic. But this doesn't mean that people have more chances of becoming Pmods as a result of using social media. At least not in my opinion.
Maybe I'm dong it wrong, and for this I am open to any input, but my goal is simple -> try and consolidate the different communities, to offer them events where they can take part in together and share some fun, meet new scaping friends and have a good time.
This is what is happening in the Jmod events, several people have already told me they met people in these events they would never have met before, and are really glad to have had the chance to take part.
This is why I wanted to try and set up this Pmod events group, a group of people I know are good and regular players who can set up, promote and support all kinds of events.
I hope some of this makes sense, and explains the intentions behind this thread a little bit, if not... just ask away
.

For a few years, the events team in Tree Hunters have been doing fun stuff for our FC & clan. A few years back I used to do a lot more events but I think it's time to rekindle that flame!
I'll def be seeing you all in this FC!
Nice! This is exactly what the RS community needs, a new way to come together, have fun. Great idea, to whoever thought of this, and respect to Jagex and its moderators for mentioning this in the news and the forums.
I might check you guys out when my account is not noob anymore
Hey Jon, thanks for the reply again, The group of players you're working with (the pmod group) is almost detatched from the reality of the game. Not many attend events any more unless the person has 20,000 youtube subscribers or there's some item giveaway.
Most events are "xp waste" anyway and the social part of the game is almost dead to a lot of players.
The problem is that since Jmods and Pmods have become so common (with reddit twitter etc...) there's no hype about it any more.
back in 2005-2008 if you saw a Jmod or pmod you were on your best behaviour because you knew somebody had been very strict about the rules and got the silver crown by hard work and dedication to the rules. Jmods on the other hand were fearsome beings with immeasurable power.
Now look. What's happened? pmods and jmods are left right and center. There's no need for events because jmods and pmods are everywhere. The players that are interested in it are subscribed to you on twitter. Hoping for pmod.
Vicious circle.
and (since I have lost the original quote) I will leave you with this from mod balance:
"As to your point about Player Moderators being active on Social Media/other websites, that's a fair point, but there's a reason that is the case. It's because they're social, which is what we want our PMods to be, awesome people who love talking to others. PMods are community champions, and social media is just one avenue we use to look for potential PMods. Note too that PMods are actively encouraged to use things like Twitter"
