Nice! This is exactly what the RS community needs, a new way to come together, have fun. Great idea, to whoever thought of this, and respect to Jagex and its moderators for mentioning this in the news and the forums.

I might check you guys out when my account is not noob anymore =p

Noob or not, you are more than welcome to join any events :)

Aloha.

Just out of nosiness, isn't this what RS Outreach was supposed to be when it was started all those years ago, or has that fizzled away?

No they are still very much active, and this is a separate initiative :)

I will put this on the TeamUp calendar :) I hope it can make it to the current events, but it'll be out of order.

...The group of players you're working with (the pmod group) is almost detatched from the reality of the game. Not many attend events any more unless the person has 20,000 youtube subscribers or there's some item giveaway.
Most events are "xp waste" anyway and the social part of the game is almost dead to a lot of players.
The problem is that since Jmods and Pmods have become so common (with reddit twitter etc...) there's no hype about it any more.

back in 2005-2008 if you saw a Jmod or pmod you were on your best behaviour because you knew somebody had been very strict about the rules and got the silver crown by hard work and dedication to the rules. Jmods on the other hand were fearsome beings with immeasurable power.

Now look. What's happened? pmods and jmods are left right and center. There's no need for events because jmods and pmods are everywhere. The players that are interested in it are subscribed to you on twitter. Hoping for pmod.

Vicious circle.

I can't say I agree with most of that. I, and many p-mods I know, don't use social media at all. The entire event team, and I speak with the active ones regularly, does what they do to promote community. I finally got a twitter account in October, and I don't use it =p I think this is a case of taking a visible minority and generalizing.

Had to take out the Balance quotation, but I don't really understand how social media is villifying P-mods. And I for one enjoy the fact that J-mods ARE NOT crazy infallible scary monster beings. I want them to be involved, and interacting with "real" players. Furthermore, who says p-mods aren't still like that? Just today I stopped a couple doublers and some racist speech in the GE. We earn our place. Not every single one of us...but like there's ever been a perfect group of player mods in any game.

There is never a perfect group in anything. The only thing i actually see is that J mods are alot more involved with the community now. I been around well over 10 years. Back around 2006-2009 i would rarely see a j mod. Not to mention i was also very active in the community, so that says something. I feel like the direction the game is going is a positive one. As for p mods, they have been cut in half, but the team is always growing. You cant expect things to stay the same. I'm happy with the way things look right now. :) 19 Year RS Veteran|OSRS Player

Awesome thread and interesting events. Just a quick question though - Will we be likely to see any weekday events around or between 00:00 and 05:00 game time?
I only ask because for the working North American the events so far fall during the standard 9 - 5 work period making them unattendable for many players such as myself.

You betcha - that's the time period I'm usually on as well. I'm hosting the Float Your Goat Event earlier, but that's only because I have the day off and we really really wanted to do a creative event with Mod Jon himself. ;)

I absolutely love this concept.
Really puts the 'Player Ambassador' feel back into the Player Moderator positions.

I also like that you acknowledge those who aren't Player Moderators but want to aid in running events and such. I think this is key to keep the community as one. (:

Thanks for a nice post W.W. - I agree, regular players have hosted some awesome events. We need to get some activity and excitement back in the events forums as well . Some PMods who are part of the Event Support Team will soon have a thread in Events Reg & Ongoing to help with some of that.

The new Guide and Calendar includes clocks with time conversions and a calendar for events hosted by players. Hope you'll like it. ;)
