Mod JD,
Thank you for asking for our thoughts on this!
However, I think you suggesting is flawed and not fair.
When you break the rules, that is cheating. I thought cheating was not encouraged anywhere, especially within the RuneScape community. I don't want to "assume" I know what the video maker thought, but the fact it is a well made video suggests they had read the rules and decided to ignore the 45+10 second requirement. They must be penalized for this. The fact that the voting has started means it is not fair to allow them to change the content. I know other video makers would also change content if allowed to, especially after reading some of the comments made on the videos and ways they could improve them.
Content is content. Removing a title, changing the "black scene", performing any editing changes the content of the video. Negative-space adds ambiance to a film. The title sequence sets the tone for a show. It all impacts the viewing experience and will influence who votes for what. I must admit I only looked at these two particular videos as they stood-out as being over the allowed time. So that influenced my decision and my actions. Who can say what the voting may have been if the entries were different in any way?
It seems clear to me that both video's must be removed. Resubmitting, or "resetting" the votes, or any such action is condoning what was done, and I think that would be found unfair by most people. We live in a society with rules for a reason - to be fair. Runescape is built upon respect, honor and doing the right thing. To allow someone who cheated and knowingly broke the clearly published rules a second chance is not fair to everyone else who followed the rules. We all have to walk the walk, and talk the talk.
