Red Flame: "I think Mod Ash worked on a troll quest so... When will you launch the troll graphic update?"

I did, yes. But I'm not sure when Graphics will finish their work on that project.

Igor1153: "Why do trolls live in caves and why do they like goutweed?"

Not all trolls do. There's Death Plateau, for example. Trolls in RuneScape tend to live around mountains, and caves would suit them well.

I guess goutweed is just tasty.

Zaid327: "Wouldn't it be interesting if there was a quest on the Old Men of Runescape?"

We've got a great collection of Old Men, and someone was asking recently about having a collection of Young Men too. If we come up with a good story to use all these old men, it could happen. But it'd have to be a proper one, not just a repetitive joke about lots of old men!

Ruko92: "My first question is will you add more members quests free to play like Myths of the White Lands and Swept Away?"

For what it's worth, we did those because they used to be f2p when they first came out, and we particularly wanted more polished newbie quests in the Misthalin / Rimmington area. We weren't planning to convert all the other quests too, unless we have similar reasons.

Ryan M:
"Seeing as we now have 700 songs can we see the exposition of one of the two Music capes within the game already (they are there, but I don't think pink is a suitable colour trim with a white main colour)?
Are you working on a way for players to view cutscenes from other quests once again?"

Songs are a funny case. See, the Audio team's got hundreds of songs all lined up for future content, and we don't necessarily realise in advance when there's a milestone coming up such as the 700th song. So we might miss opportunities to do things like you suggest.

I agree that it'd be nice to see old cutscenes again, especially that one. These days we tend to make that possible with new quests, like I did with Love Story, but we're not currently working on a feature to deal with all old cutscenes. It'd be a lot of work for a relatively marginal benefit.

Flamesaberer: "when bracelets were designed, why wasnt a separate slot created for them?"

I wasn't involved in that update, but from a technical point of view I can tell you that our player-kit system doesn't let us add a bracelet graphic to your lower arm. It'd need us to split all your arms to let the lower bit be replaced with the bracelet graphic.

The game engine would also need updating to have a new kit slot, which involves transmitting more data about each player's appearance on your screen, which is a bandwidth problem already in busy places like the GE.

I'm afraid that's the only one of your questions where I know anything about the answer!

Bearsmith: "How often do people at the development team look at the suggestions forum? Do you consider suggestions from players? How many updates have come from the minds of the Runescape community?"

It's standard reading while one's got a bit of spare time, waiting for a compiler to run. But very few of the suggestions there can be taken out and implemented without going through a LOT of other people, such as graphics artists. Player suggestions include the leprechauns' banknote feature, the Shilo Village stepping stone, the left-click Rake/Clear options on patches, the anvil update at the Blast Furnace, the ability to right-click on PMs to reply, the sorted POH bookcases, the ability to ride magic carpets with familiars and weapons, and many other "patch notes" updates. And that's just things I remember implementing based on suggestions.

I must admit that I tend to prioritise updates that I personally want to improve the bit of the game that I'm playing. I'm a player too, and I've got my own suggestions. Sorry :-#

---

Some developers look at the suggestions forum more than others. I personally don't look at the suggestions forum very often. Sometimes I'll take a glance to see the vague kinds of things players want, but I've never taken an idea from the suggestions forum and developed that.

By the time I start coming up with an idea, I'll already have been quite specific requirements about what the quest should be, which means that the vast majority of player suggestions will be unsuitable. I could spend hours searching for a suitable player suggestion, but in that time I could come up with a few ideas of my own.

ZarosDivine: "The armour looks won't be optimal ok but it's not about making the armour better looking. This is just the same as with the Dragon Scimitar/Longsword and Castlewars armour updates. Some people no matter how you make the armour look will keep saying the old look was better."

Yes, I'd noticed. I was modding the Rants forum as a forum mod the night RS2 replaced RS Classic. That was before I got a job here, of course, but the issues haven't changed.

I like the idea of having legacy items as separate objects. That's not to say that it'll be done, or that it's even feasible, but it's certainly a different way to go about it.

When it comes to graphical things, you're really not talking to the right team :-(

"1) Can Mods Spawn Items in game as a test, i heard this and is that how you got your Phat :P
2) have you guys have any plans to control movement by keyboard input like Wow or is this what seperates us from wow?"

1. This is actually the Wise Old Man's head. I transformed into him for the picture. But yes, we can spawn items. We don't give them to players though.

2. I've posted about that somewhere on this thread.

1) Yes, we can spawn items for test purposes but we're strictly prevented from giving them to players!

2) I think Ash has covered this in a previous answer.
