Hi guys,
As the title would suggest, we're looking to kick off a Community Newsletter type thing on the forums.
Being a community newsletter though, we don't want to just jump in before we have some feedback from you guys on whether you'd be interested in reading such a thing. I'm also really keen to hear what kind of stuff you'd potentially like to see featured.
One of the main features of such a newsletter would be that as well J-mods writing articles and making contributions, the RuneScape community itself would write articles and provide content for inclusion. From what I read around the forums, I know you've generally got something to say.
So, to get you started, here's a quick window into my head so you can see the kind of stuff that going on in there (relating to newsletters only though I should add!):
- Pick of the events
A calendar of some description that lists just a few of the many events held in game each week
- Classified Ads
There are dozens of businesses, hotels and the like to be found in game. We could create a classified ads page so you can tell the masses what you're up to.
- Story of the week
The roleplay forums show that there are some real literary marvels out there.
- Ask a J-mod
Yeah yeah, we've seen lots of these in the past but an RS problem page could be fun (nothing irl though, really, I don't want to know! )
- Caption competition
Each week we put up an image and the best caption wins!
- This week in CM
A quick rundown of what the Community management team are up to just in case anyone's interested.
- News from the frontline
News articles written by the community for the community. Maybe that's a report on a particular event, maybe it's an issue important to us all.
I could go on but you get the idea.
So, over to you. I guess the easiest way for us to manage this thread and collect your responses is if you guys can format your posts in a way that's easy for us to check out. That pretty much means:
- no articles please! (we'll get to that later)
- no 500 word epic posts (if we all like an idea, we'll get in touch so you can elaborate on it a bit)
Fair enough?
I'm now off for the weekend so I'll get back to you on Monday and we can start sifting through the ideas and between us, perhaps get something together. =)
Thanks for reading!

Hi everyone,
As promised I am back with a plan on what is going to happen with the newsletter. The aim is to have a very player driven newspaper, this means that we want you to write the articles. The sort of areas that we are looking to cover include:
* Interviews of players
* Creative submissions (for poems/stories etc)
* Quest reviews
* Event reviews
* Other reviews
* Editorials (for if you just want to comment on something)
* Sports reviews (obviously of RuneScape sports like Gnomeball Leagues or wrestling)
* Journalism (for proper RuneScape related journalistic pieces)
On top of that, we will also be including information on upcoming events, competitions, quizzes and so on.
As you probably noticed, I said that the content will mainly be written by players. So, the next question is how do you get the articles you write to us. Well, simply E-Mail any article to [email protected].
The only thing to make sure you do is to put the word "newsletter" and the sort of article it is (quest review/event review/editorial/etc) in the title of the E-Mail so we can sort it more easily.
I can't wait to see what you send in!
