Greetings to all the great and wonderful that make up this fantastic community.

With all the talk of setting up new communities on the old school and w41 servers and with w42's community well and truly dead I've found myself musing on the concept of a reboot.

Not a small undertaking by any measure so before I seek out any further support I decided that there was a question I wanted to throw out to the rest of the community.

What ten things about the previous community would you like to see changed if you had the opportunity?

I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of things people come up with but I will immediately discount any suggestion that advocates the removal of a specific person or group from the community.

In addition please try to keep them specific if possible. It would certainly be nice if we could all be nice to each other but it is more helpful in my view to try and have a plan in place to resolve conflicts even if they happen to be heated. Suggestions for change

1. Bring back the Land Claims thread.

I know, I know, but hear me out for a moment. What did removing this ever really achieve for us? It certainly didn't succeed in ending or even really discouraging conflict within or between POKs. It definitely didn't do anything to end OOC bickering in every war. In fact, feuds grew ever larger, dividing the community ever more permanently as neither side was able to agree on a final resolution for the issue. This ultimately led to waves of non-acknowledgment towards certain POKs and finally to separate canons.

Having a land claims thread may or may not fix this issue (we shall see) but it will at least offer a format for resolving conflicts and a clear center of information for those wishing to understand what is going on. It is also a great place to draw in new blood to w42 by offering them a roadmap to setting up their own group within this community.

2. Have the Land Claims thread run by an elected arbitrator.

Ideally a retired w42 rper with experience and willingness to put a little bit of time in to support the community they once enjoyed. Votes could be held by the leaders of the major clans or possibly more generally by any member of the community.

3. Expand the rules of W42 RP and make them more specific.

Even an arbitrator should be seen to be guided by a clearly defined set of rules (in fact it will strengthen their authority to do so) and W42's rules have become more blurred and confused as time has passed. A new set of rules needs to be crafted for the new community. One that is specific in its meaning and draws on the lessons learned from before the reboot. Such rules must be clearly written down for all to see in their entirety but also provide a shorter, easier to digest version for new arrivals. No one need be expected to memorize every rule, but they should hold a respect for them. "The greatest endeavors are achieved because of their selfless intent"

4. The rules must be subject to change.

Pretty straight forward really. We need a clear, official mechanism for rules to be challenged and potentially rewritten. A system that does not have the flexibility to change is one that deserves to fail.

5. POKs should be given time to live in peace.

No one sets up a POK just so they can battle time, after time, after time against every new marauder who comes along with a large axe and a larger grudge. One of the new rules implemented should create set limits that protect a new POK for a period of time after its creation and after the end of each war.

This period should be agreed upon by the community and not subject to change once set unless under exceptional circumstances. "The greatest endeavors are achieved because of their selfless intent"

Heyyy maybe if you want to restart things, you shouldn't be in people's dm's telling them that whatever they're trying to do for roleplay is doomed to fail because "all anybody wants to do is war". It sure isn't progressive to discourage people from roleplaying because it's not what you want to do.

Additionally, a landclaims thread is a bad idea. The biggest roleplay-related mistake that was ever made was pushing this idea of one individual public story across every roleplay group and that if they didn't obey it they weren't part of a "public" scene. I fell for this mistake too and learned my lesson. Anybody should be welcome to publicly claim anywhere they'd like for their roleplays and interested parties may come and go freely.

The one thing I'd change (that obeys the discussion rule of not changing other players) is this thread to not be some grandstand presenting a bunch of ideas that you fail to uphold even as I'm posting this, based on the way you're currently talking to people in-game. Individual change doesn't have to wait for everybody else to fall in line. Be the change you'd like to see, instead of trying to tamp down anything that isn't this. Sounds good!
