Can I ask what the point of this is

To generate a civil discussion on the more old school style of Role-play that was prominent in 2010 - 2013 and tackle several prominent issues in modern day Role-play communities; One of them being the excessive amount of breaking character by forcing character consent among the other complications that it may bring.

So you're saying you want to roflassassinate characters without permission?

No, as there would be a legitimate motive and build up leading to the attempt made on said character's life.

I don't see why asking for concent is an issue tbh

If you were to read the thread through more thoroughly then you would know precisely why. Character consent often or not abused and used as a shield, or Deus Ex Machina to prevent harm or ultimate death to a character where their portrayer ultimately doesn't wish to accept the consequences of their actions, even after being bested.

So if I get your thread..

You want to open a discussion about common sense?

Suppose that's one way of looking at it. Sufficed to say common sense on World of Warcraft in Argent Dawn EU isn't common at all which has led me to facepalm on several occasions.

However, granted that this, (to my knowledge) was the place where this style was originally conceived. I was curious to hear the thoughts of the denizens of World Forty Two on the matter.

Allow me to explain to you why consent is important.

While it does add more of an ooc aspect to RP, it takes away a MUCH larger one.

Gone are the days when you can roflassassinate a character because you don't like the RPer.

Granted, World Forty Two's past isn't precisely a great example of where to quote this style of Role-play best being in effect.

However, this style granted that the guidelines for common decency are followed can provide a rather down-to-earth, realistic and relatively enjoyable experience.

I'll explain it in Ellen's words:
Think of RPing as storywriting. You're the author of your character's story, and when you RP with others, you're agreeing to temporarily co-author your characters' stories.
If you're writing a book with someone or a group of people, you don't make the decisions solo. You can't decide to kill off a major character on your own. Your group of authors need to agree on that major plot point. It is NOT a solo decision.
So if I'm writing my character's story, I don't think you have a divine right to come along and overwrite my story.
I'm not changing my stance on this.
