^I'm hoping to make a guide on the four types of chainmail that appear in roleplay next:
-butted chainmail
-riveted chainmail
-[Name of the type of chainmail developed in the Oriental/Asiatic countries]
-"Generic" chainmail used by the uninformed and ignorant defaultively as they know of no other option

Hopefully that one will be up in the next few days.

Khaine, I know there was a type of armour that incorperated the design of "scales", metal sheets over-lapping one another. Ever heard of it?

And, I actually believe most Plate Armour does use Chainmail around the joints for more maneuvarability.

Just my thoughts.

Fenriz,
The effects would be similar to that of a halberd, but a much larger area of damage and severe bone crushing, although halberds will have more length.

Fez,
Yes, I've indeed heard of such. However, the moment I include "scale" style armor and so forth, I lose any reason to not include other kinds of armor here, and then this would meet the same fate as my magic guide: it would be so long no one would bother reading it.

Indeed, most sorts of plate will use chainmail around the joints, although others would still wear the gambeson as well, especially if their armor didn't have chainmail welded over the gaps. (Obviously, fitting in harmony with what you said, chainmail would be around the joints and since plates wouldn't go over every joint there'd be a gap. Thus, our points work well together.)

---

Otherwise, I'm busy working on the chainmail guide, I'll stick in leather on that one as well. Of course, then I'll be sure to include segmented plate and "scale" style armor.

What guide after that, well, I don't know. Probably something on bows, crossbows, bolts and arrows to help the ranged-using characters out a bit. But for now, melee is my primary focus for guide making.

Cedas,
Sadly, disc-rounded crossbow bolts isn't even the actual name, but the one that best explained it while being a name. I will admit, I didn't even hear of them until I made this guide, when I was making sure my memory hadn't skewered anything important.

I'll be back later, I should have a response by then.

Edit: After web surfing, I discovered that the "disc-headed crossbow bolt" as I deemed it, was... a nail-headed crossbow bolt. Obviously, the nails made in the Medieval period are different from what they are now. Only by reading about damage done to a platebody by a nail-headed bolt did I realize these two were the same.

Edit: school crap has created a problem. Chainmail guide delayed by an eternity minus one.

*Has admitted to having a real life and thus can't be an elitist.*

I'll make the appropriate Guide edits tomorrow, a 3DS takes more time to load forums pages than the amount of time I can stay awake at the moment.

This is a great thread and I honestly found it very enlightening and helpful even as a self proclaimed "veteran" roleplayer. I'll definately be applying these principles to my main character and the only suggestion I have for the thread would be the inclusion of some sources.

This thread is extremely well written to the point that I already do believe it enough to modify my playing habits but the lack of a source or two leaves me with a bit of apprehension none-the-less. If you could include some so I could take a look (for the sake of learning about plate armor in character as well as knowledge itself) I'd be very appreciative.

Again, great article.
