It's a "Whatever you say" gif, but interpret it how you like, I guess. As usual. Maybe this one is more up your alley.

As far as the thread topic goes, private and public roleplay can be easily defined by a few criteria.

Public Roleplay is roleplay that is open to - the public. That means that anyone may hop in or out of the event or session at will. Imagine having an open debate at a rally. Anyone can throw their hand up and ask a question, or voice a concern. The same is true in public roleplay, which is accessible to all members of the community. Blacklists, of course, exist in public roleplay, but these are on a personal basis. One person may choose not to roleplay with another, because of personal issues. However, a group (such as a PoK) can not actively ostracize a member or of the public, or a public group, to "exile" them from the public sphere. That's not how things work.

Private Roleplay is roleplay that is equatable to a conversation at home. The only people who can partake are people who you have invited to your home to talk with you. Roleplays that are "invite only"or take place off game in perhaps a Discord group, where members can be screened out or denied entry by non-community admins, are by nature, private. Private roleplays have the power to, as a group, blacklist or refuse interaction with someone, and even if they may invite new players, the exclusive structure of their system still makes them that - private.

Now, I know people want to hear my response to the drama on the thread. I'll bite, but I'll try to keep it relevant to the thread's topic. The Misthalin I created was made as a public group, in direct response to myself and a very large group of roleplayers being either removed or blacklisted from Misthalin (and the Misthalin discord) due to IC circumstances. As someone mentioned here, a public roleplay should be a legitimate continuation of prior IC events, hence why my Misthalin was made. It's very poor form to a blacklist or voiding another character's action to prevent those said IC events from occuring--

--such as what happened during a particular which I believe we are all familiar with at this point. To say that one group can not be legitimate because it was unfairly voided and its actions made null by another is dishonest at best, malicious at worst - especially as this offers no IC avenue for the voided group to become part of the mystical public sphere.

When any sort of legitimate means of IC action is actively denied to a group due to OOC biases and prejudice, then it should come as no surprise when they decide to make their own space to roleplay in, after being denied one. This comic summarizes it best:

The Misthalin I currently run, despite claims of being "illegitimate", perfectly fits the criteria of what it means to be a public roleplay. One may note that our thread doesn't have a blacklist (partially because it's against the forum rules <- That's a joke.) because we simply do not have one. As a public roleplay, it's not our right to exclude members of the community, and lock them out of the larger community. We actively include new roleplayers and members of the community, and provide a legitimate succession of IC events, which were roleplayed fairly, and without utilizing the powerplay of other people's characters that some groups have done in recent memory.

TL;DR - We did everything in our power to do things the right way, and weren't allowed, so we moved on.

From what I can see everyone seems to acknowledge Drak's Mistalin (hi Drak!), which would make it the public canon as it's the general public consensus.

the opinions of others don't matter to some people even if those opinions are held by a majority of rational people.
