@ Ran. Many people fail to keep up with the times concerning us and our repeaters, our fighting style and overall legitness (These remarks are mainly aimed at our Rangers, whom are now greatly outnumbered by the traditional infantry class we have to offer too) and instead choose to be sheep and follow the crowd. This is at least the third crossbow thread I've come across now, each with a bad remark about repeating crossbows and I feel that each of these threads are aimed at me in particular. If you have a problem. Don't be afraid to talk to me about it. I won't nerd-rage you like the call of duty fan boy many of you make me out to be ;) .

Sorry Sand, but most of that sounds absurdly biased.
No offence.
@above
This thread isn't aimed at you, don't flatter yourself. I made this thread merely to inform the public of crossbows, if there are any negative remarks about the crossbow, it is merely unintentional.

Well, that's 'cause most it /is/ biased. All that stuff about "if you didn't know this, get out of roleplay!" is just my way of saying hello, which is always gonna be biased. But the stuff about the crossbow itself (the chu-ko-nu, or chu-ke nu if you're being pedantic) and the information about how it was countered is completely true. I invite you to look it up, or just give Sun Tzu's Art of War a quick scan-through, 'cause I took most of the info from that. One man's trash is another's treasure, and one man's cash buys another's pleasure.
So I'll rob from the cradle, and I'll rob from the grave; it's just human traffic, and I'm just a slave.

I'm going to point this out:
It is IMPOSSIBLE to be completely UNBIASED.
Literally. The belief of something being unbiased is a bias in itself.
A bias affects how you view evidence (the term usedvery, very loosely) and what you will do with it. Eden (sorry to use you as an example) has a bias that, after reading threads that put a bad mark on the name of repeaters, as well as mentioning Yannille, will sometimes lead him to feel as though someone's pointing the finger at him. Or when Sand sees someone overpower a repeater, he perceives them as not being as fully educated as they should be on crossbows. The result is Sand then proceeding to make a variety of points.
NOTE: Sand and Eden, sorry about using you as examples. I just chose two names from the page. Which also happen tobe the ones I'm most familiar with.
Seriously, everything is going to be biased. Like I said, it affects how you perceive something.

Putting "Ugh" beside repeaters, knowing full well that I use them doesn't really help much does it? In fact, it's fishing for me to come here and complain about it, which you've accomplished, whether it be intentional or not.
All of you seem to know the flaws of the repeating crossbow, that it's absurdly weak. It is not within my power to determine the way you respond to a repeating crossbow's shot. That would be power-playing ;) . This goes for all you other Repeater users. If you're getting shot at by a repeating crossbow, and it manages to tear through your armour like a hot knife through butter, then it is not the crossbowman that's wrong, it's you. Give them a response like *The Bolt fired from the weak powered crossbow wouldn't have a chance against Eden's thick armour, making it bounce off*. Then again, if the crossbow was so weak and couldn't really kill soldiers who are most likely wearing armour of some sort, I don't think it would have been produced in such great number. Which leads me to believe that at close range (like all crossbows) The repeater still had pretty decent stopping and penetration power. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm speaking from what I believe to be common sense. Maybe the weapon wasn't mass produced 'cause they noticed it actually did fail so badly. If you're willing to prove me wrong go ahead and find the wiki that does so. I've kind of stopped using crossbows 'cause, regardless of how good you try to make one, the Longbow will always reign superior :D .

EDIT: Wiki reckons that it's penetration power sucked, and poison was used to cause death even on mild wounds. Still, I wouldn't have gone relying on poison to kill somebody, I'd want an actual fatal wound in there somewhere :L. That's just me though, the Koreans might have been silly. A poisoned enemy still poses a threat and can continue the fight until the poison eventually kicks in and kills him.

Well, I'm here to defend them Repeatin' crossbows, mhm.
They were a weapon for the peasantry, designed for the peasantry, and made by the peasantry. They were there to defend cities against the numbers of bandits and marauders that didn't wear much armor, and it was successful.
Every peasant in this game would likely have a longbow, sure, however it is also likely, if they are an inventor, that they'd have a repeating crossbow to shoo off thieves.

NEXT:
There are mechanisms that allow for the user of a crossbow to not have to simply pull back the string. Look up your pull and push lever, cranequin (also known as the rack and pinion), and windlass crossbows.

Jackin, those aren't considered repeating crossbows due to the long amount of time it takes to reload them.
@Eden
I removed the ugh.
@Whoever said that thing about bias
I know everyone is biased, but large amounts of it make writing guides difficult.
