Just leaving this here, from a UK e-scooter trial.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-56684033

""
A visually-impaired woman left injured and "frightened" by e-scooters is calling for more to be done to monitor a city's trial of the vehicles.

Rachael Pereira said she has experienced 14 instances of e-scooters causing or nearly causing her injury.

That's just awful, Poor woman :(

What a very badly thought-out "trial". No way of linking mis-users to the scooter in question. Surely these vehicles could be fitted with trackers and any incidents could then be linked directly to whoever had hired it at the time the incident took place.

Then ban the individual from ever hiring them again and fine them too.

I agree. There are people who have a total lack of consideration for anyone else but themselves. This spoils things for those who are using the scooters as intended. Overall, at the moment, I think they are more of a menace than a useful means of transport for short distances.
Edit to add: The use of e-scooters should not be allowed to proliferate at the expense of visually impaired people. Life is difficult enough for them already, they shouldn't be scared to step outside their home

There was an item on the BBC's breakfast news this morning about the problems with e-scooters. One suggestion was to use technology to restrict where they can be used. I missed the first part of the news item but I think they were saying it would be possible to make the motor cut out if the scooter was taken off the road/cycle path. Of course that doesn't stop the problem of them being left in the middle of a pavement.

I feel they need little cameras on them; it may help against the people that abuse them and are reckless.

Regulation of Investigatory Powers would have something to say about that unfortunately

saw at least 4 (that I can remember) today absolutely flying, forcing people off the pavement driving like loontics, also saw 2 being ridden quite sensibly

This is what I don't get:

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/money/2021/04/scene-from-coco-pops-tv-advert-pulled-for-showing-kids-riding-bikes-on-footpath.html

In New Zealand it is illegal to ride a bicycle on the footpath, even for kids but it's ok for E-Scooters and other electrical gadgets, I just don't see the sense in this. I feel our laws need to change.

Never used them but the battery won't last for long!

the battery last longer than you think, £10 per 24 hours and if you break that down to 30 to 45 minutes a day, that 24 hours will last ages.

Much love
