Musk has a vested interest in getting cars on the road and, therefore, being against wfh. He also would have stated his environmental concern if that was the case. He basically said people who wfh are "pretending to work". With many studies suggesting that productivity was stable or rose during the pandemic (like this one:https://www.forbes.com/sites/adigaskell/2021/05/31/how-productive-have-remote-workers-been-during-covid/?sh=4e306748639e), it acts as an insult to those of us whose productivity increased ir remained stable( 90% of workers). This was the first result, but you can choose any of them really.
However, as far as being green, there are conflicting studies. Some suggest it is better to come to the office in the winter, because heating one building is better (they suggest that wfh in the summer is greener, though, which is exactly when he called people back to the office). Others that take a more holistic view and include things like the increase in car crashes, getting rid of vehicles for mass transit, take-out food, buying more office attire, etc... generally take the stance that wfh is greener.
Really, I don't see his reasoning other than being revenue driven. Productivity is up (and you bring the workers who struggle to the office if an individual's performance is suffering), wfh is greener in the summer even from the studies who suggest office work may be greener sometimes (and I had to specifically google "working from office is more green to get this)... but he called his workers in during the summer(?), and he never once stated an environmental concern.
And I swear I'm not going to let her know all the pain I have known
