So I hope I have given you an introduction to what is being done in the chemical world to make chemical production less damaging to the environment. This is a massive area which is growing all the time, and yet some people claim that scientists are just hiding behind carbon dioxide to disguise all of their other problems. This is simply not the case and I hope that the above demonstrates that.
Climate change by CO2 is a reality, but climate change by other materials is a reality too. It all ties together to provide a rather bleak picture of the future if we continue as we are, and the philosophy of green chemistry is a fantastic example of how we are fixing the problem.
Much of this information comes from a catalysis module I am undertaking at my university. The exam is coming up in a few weeks and posting this has also helped in my revision for it. :) I have also spoken with several of the green chemists here in the department to ensure I get the right information. Some information also came from textbooks such as "Catalytic Chemistry" by Bruce Gates (Wiley press, 1992). That is a fantastic book and I highly recommend it.
Thanks very much for reading. Any questions you have about this or anything else to do with the implications of climate change please post them, but I do not want this thread to become a debate on the reality of climate change because it IS a reality. There has been enough treading water done on this already, and I am demonstrating what we are actually DOING to combat it.
So once again, if you want to deny that climate change is real please find somewhere else to do it. We are past that.
