I couldn't find the old discussion thread for the series. I assume Chewy ate it.

Anyway, new series started. I wanted to share my opinion and open discussions for it going forward once again.

It felt like more of the same, which is really bad. The companions from previous season returned and they are as bad as ever.

Jodie Whittaker does well with the awful writing that she's been given. Every time I hear her say "Fam" I cringe though. It was fine maybe once, but now it's just obnoxious.

It was a really poor starting episode.

Got to admit I've not watched it since Sylvester Mccoy in 1987 or something. I just can't stand the guy in the show. He didn't fit in for me. So stopped watching it after that and not watched it since.

Not sure I can get away with seeing a Woman as Dr Who after all these years of being played by a Male. Just seems odd. I know it's looking like a PC issue but it's just not for me. Sadly.

PS. It does look like Chewey got the old thread. I didn't find it. ;)

I haven't watched it since Christopher Ecclestone took the role... the doctors got progressively worse after that. For me it peaked with Tom Baker.

I'll admit though that I haven't see any recent ones with Jodie Whittaker.

Maybe I should try one.

I stopped watching Doctor Who after Christopher Eccelston, David Tennant and Peter Capaldi. I'm not interested in this show after them, their arcs were pretty interesting and actually worth caring about. I don't even bother watching clips of Jodie's Doctor Who or vids reacting, I just like the vid and leave. I wouldn't mind seeing how she regenerates into the next doctor though.

The main problem with it is the enforced quirkiness... when someone gets cast as The Doctor they seem to go into pantomime mode.

That's why I liked Tom Baker so much, he wasn't acting quirky, he is quirky by nature.

I had high hopes for Capaldi, I really rate him as an actor, but no - he just became another one that was trying too hard to be unusual.

I don't watch it anymore due to the change.....

Will restart watching again when this actor leaves....

Remember the movie when the 10th and 11th doc met...!! That was epic.

I loved classic Doctor Who as a kid. I think each Doctor had some great and not-so-great stories - but The Doctor himself was always great. As The Brig liked to say, "Splendid fellow - all of them." I started with Tom Baker, who will always be THE Doctor to me. I continued watching with the 5th, 6th, and 7th Doctors as the series went on - but I also got caught up on the stories with the first three Doctors. McCoy's run was a bit uneven. Some of his early stories were just goofy, and towards the end of his series, the writers tried so hard to make The Doctor this dark, mysterious, all-knowing being who was more than JUST a Time Lord that they lost sight of who The Doctor was, and what made the series work for over two decades...then it was over, for a while. I liked McCoy's portrayal of The Doctor, and he did have some stories which were brilliant. Others were flashy, confusing messes.

I was cautiously hopeful when Doctor Who returned in the '90s in the form of a TV-movie, which gave us the debut of Paul McGann's Doctor #8. While there were a few flaws in the story, I did enjoy McGann's brief stint as The Doctor - and I was disappointed a new Doctor Who series did not result from this.

When Doctor Who finally did return in 2005, once again I was cautiously hopeful. I quickly found I loved the new Who too! The actors were different, the effects were improved - but the magic was still there. :) Sure, some stories weren't quite as good as others - but there were plenty of really good, even great, stories! As with the old series, I liked each of the Doctors in this new series, particularly David Tennant. Sadly, I missed all but the first three episodes from Peter Capaldi's final season, due to a lengthy hospitalization. Happily, I can catch up on all those episodes, and rewatch all the adventures of Doctors 9 through 12 on DVD! I got the complete box set of 9 + 10 last summer for my birthday, while for Christmas I got the box sets for 11 and for 12!

Also for Christmas, I received a DVD of the animated Doctor Who adventures, which includes the 8th Doctor's version of Shada! I am looking forward to seeing that.

Unfortunately, when Peter Capaldi's time as The Doctor ended, so ended Doctor Who, as far as I am concerned. The pathetic PC parody of this once beloved and brilliant show which has taken its place is NOT Doctor Who by any standard. I've been calling it Doctor Woke, and that name has been spreading across social media now. It's not that they've made The Doctor a female, though that does go against decades of Doctor Who canon from the beginning until partway through the Matt Smith era. It's that they've written "her" as a serial lecturer crusading for radical left-wing causes like climate change, and fighting the "true" evil in the universe. No, not the Daleks...the dreaded straight white male. The toxic femininity doesn't end there, though. This show is becoming openly hostile towards male viewers, particularly long-time Doctor Who fans who haven't embraced this "upgrade", as Doctor Woke refers to herself. What they may not have figured out is this "upgrade" is also turning off a lot of female fans as well.

Reportedly, for season 12 there is a planned crossover story where Doctor Woke meets David Tennant's Doctor and shames him for his toxic masculinity. Ten hangs his head as Doctor Woke lectures him. How do you suppose the Tennant fans are going to react to this? Their initial delight at seeing their Doctor on their screens again is likely to turn to anger, then a blinding rage. I expect the BBC will discover a whole new level of hostility they weren't expecting, particularly from the Tennant fangirls. I read that Matt Smith was asked to appear in this story too, but flatly refused when he learned what they'd do to his Doctor. Peter Capaldi also found reasons to not be available. Perhaps these two care more about the integrity of their Doctors than Tennant cares for his Doctor's integrity.
