I've been watching the old episodes (started at S1) on Netflix recently. They are still enjoyable at least. While S11 and S12 were boring and did nothing for me, it thankfully has not killed my interest in the show as a whole. I can still go back and get enjoyment from the older episodes.

I'm currently on the Tennant era (nearing the end of S2) and it's been a blast even though I've seen it many times.

Lost hype for the current Doctor Who show, but it's still there for the old episodes. That counts for something. Yesterday I watched the two Satan episodes. That was such a great episode. I really like episodes where not even the Doctor knew what the threat was. Even he was baffled. The Satan and Midnight episodes are episodes that do that beautifully.

I doubt I'll re-watch the S11 and 12 episodes when I get to them. I'll just stop after finishing S10.

Real shame we can't have the writing quality of episodes from the earlier seasons in this modern version. It would be such a great show now that it has better on-screen technology.

Yeah, I agree. Those seasons were great, and they're still great when we go back and re-watch them. Speaking of which, since switching to streaming television, I've been enjoying Pluto, which has an entire channel devoted to nothing but classic Doctor Who, shown in episodic format! Unfortunately, they interrupt the 22-minute episodes for four commercial breaks. However, it's still nice to see these old favorites back on television. :) I've been watching Pluto for a while now, and have noticed they play a limited number of stories from the First through Seventh Doctors.

If only we could have quality scripts and characters again, combined with today's technology - yes, that would be something to see!

Two actors who appeared on Doctor Who have died recently. Louis Mahoney and Earl Cameron.

I remember Louis Mahoney from the Tom Baker story Planet Of Evil. He was the black crewman, Ponti. He also played Billy as an old man in Blink, who never forgot the Gorgeous Girl he'd been flirting with minutes before from her perspective, yet it had been so many years ago to him.

I did not recall Earl Cameron, so I looked him up, and learned he had a role in the 1966 story The Tenth Planet, William Hartnell's final story which introduced the Cybermen as well as the concept of regeneration. This story also features the earliest spoken role by a black actor on Doctor Who whose work still survives.

May they both Rest In Peace. Condolences to their families and friends.

I watched the New Years special just out of curiosity because I saw that Captain Jack was in it, but the episode was quite underwhelming. Anyway, this is only the third episode I have watched with the current doctor. The only other two episodes I have seen was the first when she was introduced and the one involving the spiders in the hotel, both of which I felt had awful writing.

My favorite doctor was David Tennant because he was so great in the role and the writing was amazing at times. I did not watch a lot of Matt Smith as he was not as good as Tennant and the quality of writing declined. Though I will saw that even Matt Smith had some decent episodes. Capaldi was a good Doctor and I was sad when he left after only three seasons.
