So here I am sat locked down tighter than a duck's arse in Kent whilst our good friends just across the Channel help us out by putting an embargo on our food imports.

This was always going to happen anyway, just that the new strain brought the timing forward a little. I hope our little island remembers this kind act next time there's an internecine European event, and declines to get involved.

Anyway, sitting here with time to wonder; was this 'mutant' an entirely home-grown little fellow or is it already out there in Europe but no-one's bothered to look. Or notice it. I seem to recall a few months back the infection numbers were surging in our nearest neighbours whilst those in the UK were declining. Funny that. Maybe it came across the water in those odd little boats we keep reading about.

Ah well, time will tell and we'll probably get the blame anyway.

The mutated strains aren't new. I mean, sure, the media is telling you there's a new strain, and that's why there's a new lockdown... but, like many things being brought up now, this is something I mentioned months ago:
Original message details are unavailable.
Generally viruses mutate to be more infectious, but less symptomatic. That's what happening right now. 614G spreads easier, but is less symptomatic than D614.

You know what I just can't shake out of my head though?
They've had a vaccine this whole time.

Jan. 13th, Moderna finished the genetic sequence for their mRNA-1273 vaccine.

Jan. 14th, the WHO tweets out that there is no evidence of human to human transmission.

They had a vaccine before the WHO claimed that it didn't spread from human to human.

1.7 million have died this year... and they had a vaccine this whole year.

Meanwhile, the media downplayed the virus until it had sufficiently spread, and then spent the rest of the year talking about how they need to "find a vaccine".

O_o
I'm better than you, but that doesn't mean you're not great! :)

The transport embargo is a totally wrong approach. If they make sure truckers stay foot in their vehicle nobody will get infected.
Big roll-on & roll-off platforms, like a huge parkinglot, truckers can easily deliver their truckloads.
Just the transport of goods only, ... why not? :|

Let the army escort the transport vehicles throughout the land so shops will get their goods.

Can't the truckers just... ummm... wear a mask?

Like, they claim masks stop the spread, so, why can't the truckers just wear masks?

Unless... masks don't actually work?

There's no consistency or logic in these kinds of regulations and orders.

Crowded movie sets ALLOWED, small esthetician SHUT in Canmore, Alberta
https://youtu.be/dwlyuQYiyow

Clearly this woman just doesn't understand that the virus doesn't affect movie stars.

I was out shopping today. I listened as an employee explained to a customer why the "non-essential" items were blocked off. The employee then explained that they could still order the items for curbside delivery, and then showed the customer how to order it on their phone, right there in the store, and said it would be ready for pickup in about 10 minutes.

I also noticed that some shovels were blocked off, while others weren't. Like, the same shovel, except one was silver and one was painted black. One was "essential" and one was "non-essential".

Who's deciding this stuff? Jimmy Rees?

My Ole Man is a lorry driver, has been for many a year. He's done his stint of cross-Europe driving.

By and large Europe are far more organised than the UK when it comes to arranging stopovers for distance drivers. Secure parking, proper facilities, vending machine food & microwaves (yuk - but it does short term) - best of all you have to be driving a lorry to get in; no general public to spread your diseases to.

He says he's never met a trucker yet that wants to hang around making small talk with random local folk. They just want to get from A to B as quickly as is legal, dump the trailer, then get back home again. So not much scope there for spreading the joy of any flavour.

But, hey. Europe, ya little scallywags ..... any excuse is a good excuse n'est-ce pas ?

The class clown told everyone to stay away from the South East of the country and to avoid travel abroad, while making out like this was a very dangerous 'new' variant rather than admitting failure. I'm not surprised at the response it has provoked across the border as a precautionary measure, even if it may be an overreaction. Also worth mentioning it is not exclusively Europe blocking travel from the UK. Low on bank space? Click here .
