My younger brother back in the UK had a positive test yesterday after feeling a few of the symptoms over the weekend. They're (him and his girlfriend) living at my mums who is high risk which is worrying.
They've isolated themselves to the bedroom and my mum did have her first vaccine dose just over 2 weeks ago so who knows how effective it'll be in this instance given it's only her first dose so far and had it not too long ago.
Just waiting on at-home test kit results both my mum and his girlfriend will send off today to see if they test positive.

Sorry to hear this Joel, but I do hope that with a couple of weeks now gone by your mum should have started building up a good resistance.
Hope she stays safe, and your brother and girlfriend get better soon.

It is not JUST a vaccine. It is the difference between not getting Covid or getting it and perhaps dying from it.
Are you implying that anyone who doesn't get a covid vaccine will get covid and possibly die?
Do you imply the same thing about the influenza vaccine?
Did you get your influenza vaccine this year?

Nex, people are happy that they've received something that hopefully gets us out of this pandemic and makes it less harmful to those most at risk. Why respond with such negativity?
I literally said "P.S. I'm glad your fears have been placated.
". Why are you implying that I'm posting with "such negativity" ?

Why is it weird? We're in a global pandemic that's resulted in people being confined to their homes for weeks/months on end and on multiple occasions (not to mention those who've lost loved ones) so why shouldn't something that gives people some joy to know that this will hopefully move us past our current situation be celebrated?
It's weird because it's not an accomplishment, nor does it actually affect any of the lockdowns. Don't you remember? Even after you get the vaccine, you can still be a carrier and transmit it to other people. The vaccine doesn't prevent infection or transmission, it only helps to prevent symptoms from manifesting.
What other vaccine have you ever celebrated?
I'm better than you, but that doesn't mean you're not great!

Do you get congratulated on getting your influenza vaccine?
Is that something people say to you every year?
Maybe there's a different word that should be used...
P.S. I'm glad your fears have been placated.
Nex, I like you but that's a really shitty post. And entirely unnecessary.
If you personally don't believe Covid is a real threat and that vaccines, masks and so on are useless then that's OK you're entitled to believe that.
But there's absolutely no need to be snarky to people who do believe, and no need to slyly belittle them as though they were little kids scared of the monster under the bed.
"I'm glad your fears have been placated" .... that remark is really beneath you.

Yeah, it was a snarky remark I wasn't the only one to pick up on, hence my reply to you.

I know, you love to jump in a car (or a motorbike), yank the steering wheel/handle bars as far as it goes to drive around in circles (figuratively speaking). We went over this the other week.
At the time when most of a population has been vaccinated will we (hopefully) start to see the benefits of it and can start fully relaxing rules etc. It doesn't mean an individual cannot be excited or happy about a move in that direction, starting with themselves, since this is a collective problem around the world.

Well I would say that the smallpox and polio vaccines (to name just two) were quite a cause of celebration.
they rather eradicated the problem

No, it wasn't a "snarky remark". I am honestly happy that she's relieved of some of the stresses she was enduring. Why wouldn't I be? The media spends every single day fear mongering the public. Why wouldn't I be happy that she's been alleviated of some of the fear the media has created for her?

If your logic is "get a vaccine to end the lockdowns" it's equally important to note that the lockdowns won't end just because people get the vaccine.
You're the one who yanked the steering wheel. You brought it up, I responded to it. If you don't want people to respond to circular logic, then don't keep bringing up circular logic.
Don't blame me for things YOU'RE instigating.

Isn't the smallpox vaccine considered the "most dangerous vaccine known to man"?

It's good to be on top.
P.S. It wasn't snarky, it was an honest expression. I even included a
to try and ensure that it was understood that I was making the comment in good faith.
