I see it like this: if you're still living with your parents in their house, parents have the right (and obligation) to set the rules. Their place, their way. Gaming is causing trouble concerning studies, work or anything else? Sorry, you have two options: abide by the rules or find a place of your own.

I lived that phase during the first teenage years. My reaction was pretty on the explosive side and got so mad when parents decided to set new rules concerning my "distraction and diversion" activity: lots of good ol' NES. Got hyper hooked to "The Legend of Zelda" and "Bucky O'Hare" (underrated plataformer, cool soundtrack). I was getting too absorbed, school grades weren't good and I totally stopped helping at home. It was a mess.

Nowadays as an adult, I'm thankful for that since I understand why they did it.

Having fun is important and helps preserving mental health, but like everything in life... needs limits. Otherwise, it'll become a living nightmare sooner or later, for you and/or the rest.

The argument presented to me was that the parent didn't respect the kid if they deleted the account.

I also had a lot of my games taken away from me, because they contained magic. It was right around when Harry Potter became popular and the church didn't like it. Even though I did nothing wrong, I can't remember caring too much, tbh.

Also you aren't the first that said their parents were thankful for taking them away either.

I suppose you'd learn very quickly about account security (lol)

Ehhh, transactional relationships absolutely do exist in the world, but that is a different topic.

I suppose I just imagined that the parent tried everything before deleting the account as well. I do agree that deleting an account is drastic, however I don't consider it something permanent at all as another profile could be made.

Also, authoritative parenting is the hot new thing.

100% agree with you on that one. I believe punishments should start from low and gradually scale high, if bad behaviour continues. There always must be a direct consequence derived from your actions, but alternatives should be negotiated according to age and maturity. Otherwise, no learning will take place and probably the punished person will do exactly the opposite.

Would you count natural consequences as a direct consequence?

I was raised in a mildly conservative (liberal conservative?) family, that allowed some liberty but this one was granted through actions.

I was raised ultra conservative, lol, so I feel this.

I've never had anything like this happen and I've lived alone for a while time.

I do remember when I did do things wrong I used to get sent to bed with no supper. If I did something really bad then Firday pocket money day I got sod all. :P

My parents used to get mad when I first got internet. I was always logged into it and they could not phone me. They came round to my flat kicking the shit out of my door shouting get off that bloody internet. Been trying to call you all day lol. That was funny.

Other then that. Nope nothing.

PS. Enjoy the glue for a week.

Thanks!

What a week in the markets though holy woooooowwwww.

And, I went through that in my teen years with the internet.

The thought of parents being able to delete their childs account in this day and age without the child being notified mid delete by text message asking "are you sure" which results in them saying "no" which then voids all the parents attempts and still making the parents believe that they just actually deleted the kids account is laughable "but true" lol.

That being said, unless your parents are Bill Gates, Elon Musk or Amit Kataria, i doubt most parents can't even bypass their childrens main screen password haha

Much love

Regarding the first question, yes I would.

I have friends who were raised ultra conservative. For them, I'm a hippie lol (with all due respect) who brought some kind of enlightment to their lives. Yup, I totally corrupted them! MUAHAHA!

I giggled about the "Harry Potter" thing you mentioned: it also happened where I live. Local church went bananas when it became popular, but they didn't say a word when "The Lord of the Rings" or "Chronicles of Narnia" turned big, and both have lots of wizardry, an evil White Witch and a bloody (so epic and awesome) BALROG! :P

Twillow locked my thread and all she could do is say my question had been answered. I want more than two players answering my question.

What the hell is this about?

We can lock lots of threads in 1 or 2 posts.
