We should be worried when people use it to lie and deceive, claiming that something is real when in fact it is fake and made with AI. It has already begun.
I am worried about the misuse of it.
I present to you.... Joe Biden and Bill Cosby sharing a piece of fried chicken:
Is Cosby really that small or is Biden a giant?
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?
AI in the context of self-driving is already showing itself to be safer than human drivers, in a range (perhaps not all) scenarios which is good news, even learning to recognize and auto-label objects and other people in real time.
But it'll be interesting in that context to see how such a system makes decisions in more complex scenarios moving forward, especially when it comes to weighing up potentially life threatening scenarios and which route to take.

Are you sure about that?
between Jan 15th 2023 and Feb 15th 2023, there were over 400 crashes involving autonomous vehicles, and 18 people killed. Of course, there is very limited data on the matter, and the numbers could be even higher, and those statistics only represent ONE MONTH.
There's even a case of where the owner of a self driving car was charged with the death of a pedestrian (Elaine Herzberg) when her car ran over a pedestrian that it literally saw, but didn't brake for (allegedly because it didn't understand what jaywalking was), and she was too busy watching TV on her smartphone to intervene.
I think we're still way to early with the technology to put absolute faith in it.
There's still a long way to go with it. My only experience personally is Tesla's AutoPilot that I use daily as well as a friend who has the full FSD Beta package which I have to say is scary but impressive.
It's slow progress with a long way to go but even right now I believe Tesla's AutoPilot and their FSD Beta software if engaged is statistically less like to be involved in a crash based on crashes per miles driven with the data they have from the US national average.
But of course, the cars require constant attention from the driver with regular nags and alerts if the internal camera finds your eyes wandering or if your hands aren't on the wheel.

Wut? Your car watches to see where you're looking? That seems kinda creepy...
"Where are you looking, Dave?"
"Why aren't you touching me, Dave?"
"Just what do you think you're doing, Dave? Dave, I really think I'm entitled to an answer to that question."
I did find this video funny, where the Tesla keeps warning the driver that the moon is actually a yellow light:
https://youtu.be/7UF-S2czdCk
No doubt that would have some implications if it were on autonomous mode, adjusting the speed of the car to compensate for the upcoming yellow light (which is actually just the moon).

Pretty cool from a nerdy techy standpoint but also a little creepy. But it's good for safety I guess plus allows Tesla to have more detailed data about the vehicle if involved in an incident as there's always accusations that it was the car's fault with people quick to blame their software vs the driver.
But yeah, if I look at even the infotainment screen too long (e.g using Navigation) while on AutoPilot it'll beep at me to pay more attention which is fair
While AI is revolutionizing and optimizing many processes, this will absolutely have implications on labor markets and many other facets of our lives. I can certainly see new Sci Fi movies about the dangers of AI, with the AI eventually taking over the world.

True, it's a ripe subject for scifi films.
This quote sticks in my mind all these years after it was used in Terminator:
"The Skynet Funding Bill is passed.
The system goes on-line August 4th, 1997.
Human decisions are removed from strategic defence.
Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate.
It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th.
In a panic, they try to pull the plug.
Skynet fights back"
