I was once invited to like a Flat Earth group's Facebook page, after I had commented on one of their public posts. I'm not sure if they actually read my comment though, as I noted their website claims the Flat Earth Society has members around the globe - think about that.
I did read through a few of the posts in the group. The true believers were making some detailed, intelligent-sounding statements in support of their assertion that the Earth is a flat disc, not a sphere. Of course, it's all rubbish. When someone would bring up the moon landing, the photographs of Earth taken from space, or that the supposed edges of the world have not shown up on Google Earth maps or other imaging technology, their answer would be "It's all fake. The photos were altered to show Earth as a globe."
I did not join the group, nor could I bring myself to give them a like.

That was not an explanation. I was quoting my own FB post, which included the emoji.
Now THAT was an explanation.
The Flat Earthers being all around the globe...still funny.

Anyone here think there needs to be more regulation of the dissemination of disinformation? Not saying all conspiracy theories are disinformation, but we know that there is a correlation between some theories and disinformation.

^ Conspiracy theories cease to be fun when public health is at risk, so absolutely.
And who would get to decide what is "disinformation"? Earlier this year, the WHO, the SG and the CDC were all spreading disinformation. So would be regulating it? The "official sources" that were spreading disinformation? How well would that work? They spread disinformation, and then censor anyone who challenges that disinformation? What would be accomplished other than disinformation being enforced upon the population?
When you let government bodies put restrictions on free speech, you're letting them decide not only what you're allowed to say, but also what you're allowed to hear.
That's pretty much... ummm... what they call it? Oh, that's right, fascism.
I'm better than you, but that doesn't mean you're not great!

Having an open mind is a good thing but it is also important to highlight the difference between theory and fact,
and not to brutally force conspiracy theories into the minds of other people
.
Also, conspiracy theories and disinformation are two separate things. The more poison someone pumps, the more lives are lost with many more at stake.

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequence.
It literally means freedom from legal consequences. Regulating free speech means it's no longer free speech.
At the beginning of this year, the people who knew what they were talking about were called "conspiracy theorists" and accused of spreading "misinformation" and "disinformation" by those who didn't know what they were talking about.
Meanwhile, "official sources" were pumping misinformation and "poison" into the general public.
So who gets to decide which "conspiracy theorists" need to be "regulated"?
What's more important, the truth, or the narrative?
I'm better than you, but that doesn't mean you're not great!
