reach trucks are actually fairly small as far as forklifts go. you stand up in the operator compartment, it doesnt have a seat. theyre great for narrow isles that are too tight for regular forklifts to turn in

i could never be a driver. after like 30-60 minutes in a car i have a hard time staying awake lol. but i always enjoyed working with friendly drivers. made loading/unloading much better then when dealing with other types of drivers.

at my last job i had a crazy and super rude driver that i had to deal with for 4 years. he always parked trailers in very poorly. he broke our garage doors and the flaps around them several times. i understand backing those things up is hard. but after a couple years going into the same couple bays youd figure he would get good at it. especially cuz other drivers that filled in for him sometimes were always more accurate.
then during the last few weeks when the business was closing down he got into a shouting match with one of my coworkers (which he often got into with my boss) and then decided to repeatedly ram the trailer we were working in from across the parking lot with his truck. he destroyed everything, and supposedly my bosses boss called the cops on him much later

Wow, psycho, lol !!

Husband tells me tales of some of the things drivers have got up to that he knows about, but nothing as looney as that.

I think the worst argument he's ever had was when a stand-in Manager at a warehouse tried to get into the back of his wagon to unload and he refused her entry because she was wearing open-toed summer sandals instead of proper protective footwear as laid down under Health & Safety Regulations.

He told her that if something fell on her foot and chopped her toes off it'd be down to him as he's in charge of the motor. Apparently she went into a screaming fit and threatened to report him for gender discrimination O_o

Anyway, he still refused and he never heard any more about it.

Some people have absotively, posilutely no sense at all. I'm not a confrontational person at all, but I can't believe how stupid some people really are. Like this family who were in the pool at the leisure centre I work in. The kids came out in their swimwear near one of the vending machines and then their mother came along in her bikini, also dripping wet from the pool and coming up to the machines.

And as for the stand-in manager who threatened to report for gender discrimination, I bet she got an earful from the real manager for being stupid enough to risk serious injury if not death, violate rules made to protect employees and employers, and then go ahead to try pulling the sexism card. :P

Husband is a very gentle and non-confrontational person, not at all like me.

He was very upset when he came home from work that day, he thought he'd done the wrong thing by arguing with her, and getting shouted at and verbally abused in front of other people (she called him a male chauvinist pig and ... word I can't say ...). It took a lot for him to stand his ground, even though he was in the right, and I'm glad he did.

I had steam coming out of my ears over it and was soooo ready to get letters to Managing Directors typed and posted, lol !

Actually, I think he did the right thing by standing his ground. The best thing to do in that situation is explain things calmly and keep a level head, something that's very hard to do when people are being unreasonable and making stupid threats like that. Hopefully the stand-in manager got a letter of concern or the sack. Prepare for hell on RuneScape in Naval Cataclysm!

I did a forklift course in 2015 but wasn't able to get a job with it because they all ask for 3 years experience. The age of chivalry is gone; that of sophisters, economists, and calculators has succeeded, and the glory of Europe is extinguished forever.

Oh dear. Yes, I think the bigger firms tend to insist on experienced users. But digging deeper will probably find smaller outfits who will take on a novice, although they might offer a lower rate of pay.

When Husband first got his Licence to drive articulated lorries (a very long time ago) the situation was the same for him. He had to work for several years with a number of small, sometimes a bit unsavoury, firms for less than the going rate just to get the experience under his belt.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

there was a girl doing squats wearing a shirt that said "gymnasty in bed" and extremely tiny shorts pulled up very high and it was highly distracting. but in a good way

aaaanyway, so far all the places ive applied to i have met or exceeded their experience requirements. really hope to start hearing back from somewhere soon. today i got a "promotion" with no pay raise.
