i wouldnt call it crazy. childrens safety is important, they are unpredictable stopping speed at 5mph is way different at 25mph
but it does depend where the nearest school to me is 5mph. but there are some that are up to 20mph
u are right kids are unpredictable but i dont think ive ever seen a school zone being 5 mph personally so it would feel weird for me to go that slow
nothing wrong with that ofc
In the UK there are a few reasons why you need to drive slow.
1 is the Major Potholes and I mean massive potholes.
Another reason is to piss off tail gaiters. I have a sign on my bike saying " Free break check for tail gaters " It's also on my car but different wording saying " Closer you are to Me the slower I go " It does work lol.
There are many times you need to dive slower then normal and thats great for everyone. Less accidents. Less Horses and Dogs and Cats and other animals killed by speeding plonkers who have a lead foot.
Also another fact is you drive 5mph slower then the limit you save fuel.
Driving too slowly can be just as hazardous as driving too quickly (depending on the amounts) which is why certain areas sometimes impose a minimum speed limit to accompany the maximum speed limit as well
The reality is, typically people will exceed whatever limit that road is given, especially when conditions are good, you're on a straight open road (e.g highways etc). Not saying that's right, but I feel like governments take that into account also when deciding upon limits, especially highway limits.
When I lived in the UK, I used to consistently drive at around 60-65mph (limit is 70mph) which was just quick enough to be overtaking trucks but a little under 70 which was enough to be driving a little more fuel efficient (to Tuffty's point
)
When I moved to Canada, the highway speed limit in Ontario is 100kph (they're trialing 110kph in certain areas). On average though the flow of traffic moves between 110-120 so one thing I learnt here was to more often than not, move with the flow of traffic because actually driving at 100 here, you're standing out like a sore thumb and often resulting in bit of a pile up if there's enough people switching lanes and wanting to get by.

well you would go 10mph there apparently
Got stuck behind a slowcoach yesterday. Seems they were on their phone. So got beside them and gave a long beep of my horn. Should have seen them grabbing hold of the wheel and looking all over. Had to laugh then pointed at my camera. They dropped back way back as they got caught red handed.
