@ Zaraki,
Don´t get the wrong idea. [/tsundere
I am strongly against fanservice and ecchi in regular series. :P And I dislike Fairy Tail too. Bleach is, average I guess.
I second Marineford's statement. One Piece is way better than Bleach and Naruto and many other anime in general. ^^

I watched a few episodes of one piece and given it's cult following I am probably going to get flamed for saying this, but one piece is the worst anime I have ever seen in my entire life :o
Let the flames rain O_o lulz
Reasons
-Never ending - how long does it take to find the treasure.....seriously.....
-Gum-Gum fruit....really? I have an open mind, but cmon.
-If I wanted to watch the fantastic four I would go watch it (Elastic Straw Hat boy)
-Upon watching a few of the episodes I actually found myself falling asleep (literally)
-The anime is just simply not my taste, just my own personal opinion
Maybe it gets better later on in the series, but it is longer than any anime I have ever seen and it revolves around the exact same plot as whats in the the very first episode. I'm just not seeing the good in it lol. I'm really not giving it a chance tbh since I only watched the first few episodes, but have you ever watched something and then immediately knew it wasn't your "taste" and just stopped watching, that's kind of what I feel when I watched the first bits of one piece lol.
Anyway, good for you if you like it, but it's not for me lol.

Another case of "only watched the first few episodes". Really, those are not representive for the rest of the series. It's as wrong as judging Dragonball by watching the live action film.
I'm not forcing you to watch anything, but you should reconsider those statements. Really, you are not the first one that gets the wrong impression of the first episodes, I think almost everyone had some trouble with them.
And because of that, you probably can't imagine how a masterpiece it might become later. But, I can guarantee you, it's really true.
I have to admit, I thought it wasn't my "taste" as well at the beginning. Oh boy, I was wrong.
As for the plot. You should know that "One Piece" is only the starting point/motivation for an enormous adventure. We don't follow the main character that many amounts of episodes achieving the same thing. Lots of things are going on and they're all tied together like a spider web.
If any series is never ending, it would be those other two. That's because they actually try to work towards a story but make all kinds of side ways around it.

I just don't like those "never ending" anime. Most go on forever and have weak plot lines for their length ('course I haven't seen one piece or fairy tale, so this is mostly for bleach and naruto). I like those anime that have deep plot lines and don't take incredibly long to finish (Clannad, Angel Beats, Madoka Magica, ect.). I don't care if other people like that stuff, but I just isn't for me I guess.

Vastro Zaraki,

I have to agree with Chimera Ant.
Sure it start off slow but once they get into the Grand Line that where the real fun begins. Also One Piece may not be treasure, it could be mean something else but only Oda knows. :P
And do you remember Dragon Ball during your childhood? Well One Piece was inspired by this series especially Son Goku.

Finally, did you know that One Piece is the best selling manga? And very popular in Japan too.
Stay Gold
and
Rock On!

@ Ant
Well about up to what episode do you think I should watch before making a more informed decision? I am willing to go the distance, but don't be saying all 542 current episodes lol.
As for the case of "only watched the first few episodes," I only watched a few episodes of just about all the animes I enjoy and knew I would love them just based on those few episodes. Most anime's I watch pull me right in and get me interested immediately like Death Note and Code Geass.
@ Coyote
Bleach hasn't finished, it is way too close to the manga's current point in the story so it has to be stopped or another filler made until the manga can progress some more - the former was chosen in this case. A big mistake most animes make are making the anime during the making of what it is based off of (manga). Many volumes of the manga can fit into a single 30 min episode of anime and so the anime progresses a lot faster than the manga.
@ raiken
I suppose I may have spoken wrongly in saying I don't like never ending animes. I think rather it's the subject matter that I dislike about one piece - trying to find a treasure. Becoming Hokage (Naruto), changing the world for the better (code geass), protecting what you believe in / your friends (bleach) are all more things I can get behind. Searching for a treasure seems less honorable, greedy, dull, and boring to me.
@ Marine
Yeah I am sure the "one piece" means the bonds you have with your friends or some cliche nonsense like that, but still doesn't hook me in lol. I hate Dragonball now and back then - DBZ is the good stuff. Also just because somethings popular doesn't make it good in my mind. Everyone thought that Avatar movie (Blue ppl, not air bender) was such an amazing movie. I watched it twice and said wtf is this garbage. People saw pretty colors it seems like and became completely entranced. They didn't notice there was little to no story at all, my faith in humanity waned a little the day that movie came out :p

You must watch more than the first few eps of one piece.
AND watch it subbed. Or you're getting the crap version. seriously. "luffys righteous rage" becomes "you dirty rat" in english versions.
also, they censor out all of sanji's personality. they reduce him to a lollipop holding child.
gum-gum = a very bad translation. first its not meant to be chewing gum, but like rubber.
japanese original is GOMU-GOMU. Gomu means rubber.
at least let them get on the grandline before you start to judge.
I like its length. it doesn't end as soon as you get interested like the other animes.

"Gum-Gum fruit....really? I have an open mind, but cmon."
That's my quote, I'm not sure where in that quote it says anything about bubble gum over rubber, but ok then lol. Also I should note I pulled that "translation" from the One Piece wiki, it isn't my own personal translation :|
Also as I have already said, almost all of the animes I watch pull me in at the first few episodes and pretty much tell me weather I will like it or not. Not sure why One Piece should be any different. A fundamental basic technique in any writing is having a "hook" at the beginning to draw the reader / viewer in, One piece has one - the treasure, but it does not interest me. There is nothing special about treasure, at least in the case of One Piece.
Edit: I am watching One Piece now, currently on episode 2 what episode do they get to the grandline?
2nd Edit: I am up to episode 8 and it is 1:39 a.m. lol. So I am going to bed and will watch more tomorrow.
@ raiken
Of the animes you listed which would you say is the best? (Clannad, Angel Beats, Madoka Magica). I haven't seen any of those and might check them out this weekend.

@ Zaraki,
Till about episode 60 it´s mini arcs that introduce the crewmembers, after that the first saga starts to kick in. That´s where you could say it starts. Then there is Skypea which is like a Fairy Tail arc; Good as a standalone but it doesn't really connect to the whole yet. It gets really good from 226 and the best part is 385-onwards.
There are small filler arcs now and then, but compared to other series it's not much. The first and the worst is coming pretty soon, you might wanna skip that. (54-61).
There is a very good AMV that is like a summary of the first half.
It's called "One Piece in 6 Minutes [Happy Birthday to DNubsPro]" you might wanna watch that on youtube to see what there is to it and how the art gets gradually better.
