Death Note and Hellsing Ultimate OVA are my two favorites. Both are dark. Both are flled with death. Both have interesting characters. Those things are very important to me when picking out good anime, as I recognize that not all of it is good. I never really could get into any others Click

1. That wizard girl on the first post is, if I'm not mistaken, the character in Jagex's funorb game, "Wizard run". I'm positive…(correct me if I'm wrong).
2. This is a discussion thread, I have seen many people post there favorite anime, that technically still is discussing, but I see no conversations.
3. I prefer manga, never did like anime, watching it on TV, hearing their voices and seeing that bad, colored animation. I like READING Naruto, Death note, One piece and Dragonball Z (not GT), Naruto being my favorite.

@Dynamic Hawk: Now, now Dynamic, lets not have any of that. The reason I prefer to post here over more anime centric forums such as ANN is BECAUSE of the lack of nerdrage.
Based on his post, he's only ever seen the stuff they put on TV and has never had the fortune to sample the works of the good animations studio's (KyoAni, P.A Works, Shaft ect ect) and hear the less horrific, non-dubbed voices.

@PIR4TE-D0G
1: correct.
2: You ever tried to hold a long term conversation with these guys? Not easy. If you scroll back a few pages you'll find that there is some degree of conversation between the more regular visitors, its just that we generally dont stick to one topic for very long.
It could be worse though. Back before this thread was V2'ed and stickied, you could go for 10 pages of people just saying bump without so much as a mention of anything remotely related to anime.

3: Ive never quite followed why some people could like manga but not anime (Japanese social stigma not included of course).
As i mentioned to Dynamic above, you've probably not had the chance to sample some of the better works by better studio's, so it might be a good idea to look into some of the works of the studio's I mentioned above and see if that changes your mind a bit. If not, to each their own.

ANNNNYWHO's, an update from me. Aside from new releases (of which ive cut down to 5 series, partially or fully lost interest in the others) Ive just gotten started on Da Capo, since i recently got the (shoddily) translated version of the game that Mangagamer released.
I had started watching it once before in the past, but TV rips from before the era of HDTV recording are painful to look at.
Even now, since theres no HD source to get raws from, the best you can ask for is 480p. Im so used to 720 that the only way i can watch a 480 is to put it on my PS3 and watch it on my HDTV :P

Converting animations to a higher render quality would probably take quite a while as each frame has to have each and every pixel vectored and upscaled. It would also most likely require a higher bit-depth, most likely 24 bit-depth to increase the colour render quality for each of the new frames. So i'm guessing that no-one bothers to 'upgrade' older works as it takes too long, and there's no guarentee people will watch it. :)
Aside from this, i'm now just over 1/3rd of my way through Hayate no Gotoku (Season 1 and 2 collectively), and it's still great. I'll be looking forward to season 3 when it's released and the movie later this year. ^_^

And thats why they gave us PS3's to do it for us :P . Im not sure exactly what its doing but it makes the image a lot better than it appears on the computer screen, even after i turn the mkv files into avi.
And your right about going back and upscaling old series, 99% of the time it just wouldn't be worth doing. Its only popular or mainstream series from the past 20 years (still cant beleive the 90's were that long ago) that are worth the effort, since those are the ones that will break even from a monetary perspective.
I wasn't complaining that they weren't doing that or anything, just making a bit of commentary on how you can be used to a certain quality of video, then when something better comes along and you get used to that, going back to the former isn't easy.
Back when I first started watching anime, I downloaded from sites which pretty much only hosted files in rmvb format. This was good at the time since i only had 10Gb of downloads a month and an 80GB hard drive. Now that i have bigger on both and my standard filetype is 720p mkv, those old 35mb rmvb files are cancerous to the eyes (good thing i have most of those series on DVD now :P ).

I'm used to watching videos in 360-480p, with 720p or higher being a luxury (partially because my computer can't process 720p or higher very well (for some unknown reason), so I end up waiting for it for ages to load properly. Although i'm sure the videos are 720p or better on my iPod touch). But i'm sure with all of this rapidly advancing technology, all the new stuff will probably consider 720p as 'eye-sore' graphics haha. Although I don't get what the big deal is with this "NEW! IMPROVED! 3D vision" style of videos. It's never going to be 3D, because an image can only be 2D, no matter what people say. All of this 3D hype is overrated in my opinion. Probably just another marketing excuse to con some more cash.
Rant isn't really related to anime, but while we're on the subject of technology and video rendering, I may as well mention it. :P

^Most Smart Phones can play up to 720p, so I assume the iPod Touch also allows 720p :P
I used to watch 360/480p because I used to have a laptop that only had a 60GB HDD. So it was basically storage issues xD
After getting a laptop with 500GB HDD, an external 1.5TB HDD, and changing my internet from 12GB to 200GB per month... 720/1080p anime is not an issue anymore in terms of storage size :D
So now, I usually watch 720/1080p anime on my laptop or my LCD TV in my room ^^
BTW, Steins;Gate ep.9 was intense. I mean the whole anime is getting intense with all these time travelling concepts coming up! Chaos Theory? Butterfly Effect? Wow, lol.

Well, I don't watch any sort of TV much, but has been one cartoon that I enjoy.
Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Funny, interesting characters, occasionally a nice battle, but mostly funny. Best of all, it was English so I could understand it. :D
