. Yes, i agree what despite the trippy visuals the first two and a bit episodes present themselves as fairly typical to the magical girl genre. But i will guarantee you that at the end of episode 3, you will NOT be able to say that.
To be honest, this show shares more in common with Evangelion than it does with any magical girl show. It also has a rather high body count...
So, dont let what you've seen fool you. To not watch this is to deny yourself something incredible.
@Dynamic Hawk: The main story in Higurashi (not including the 7 OVA arcs, factoring in the upcoming 4) is broken down into 8 separate story arcs, 4 'Questions' (episode 1 - 15) and 4 'Answers' (Episodes 16 - 26 + All of Higurashi Kai). Each question arc has an answer arc to go with it.
At the end of one of these arcs, the story reverts back to the beginning and gets told again, but with differing decisions creating differing events, which leads to a different resolution (They are all separate stories, NOT ALTERNATE VIEWPOINTS).
Eventually, all of these story fragments will run together into one coherent story. As for the eyes, still cant say, will ruin the Atonement arc.
