I import my anime from Japan, it's quite cheap.
I buy my manga raws, and also read them online, also. I prefer to buy rather than illegally watch, it's way more satisfying. In my opinion, if you don't have the money to start a hobby, don't get into it. Anime is an expensive hobby. I've spent over 5,000GBP on anime in the past few years, when scanlations were in their infancy, as were subs.
If I could turn around time, I'd definitely tell my past self to not bother and watch illegally. I'd have saved loads.
It's a debate that nobody can answer, at the end of the day, but when I started visiting 2ch, after a little while, my mind was made up. Suffer for the hobby. Mm.
