I've heard that before but I highly doubt the anime was adapted from anything that couldn't be described as trashy harem nonsense.

Oh make no mistake it was at least 50% fanservice for the entire ride right up until towards the end at which point it pulled off an amazing shonen ending with a heartbreaking twist OUT OF NOWHERE. If you don't like shows with fanservice harem nonsense it isn't for you, I just thought it was worth mentioning that the manga was a zillion times better.

If you're curious about my relative disdain for Clannad, Angel Beats is the source.

I loved Angel Beats. Sure it is ridiculous but I never stopped laughing... except when I was sobbing my fucking eyes out. The random mix of opposite emotion and how quickly it can change between the two was amazing imo. Also the ending broke my heart. That show is honestly the reason why I'm an organ donor. If I ran a health class I would show that anime to my students. Seriously everyone, when you're dead you don't need your organs, please give them to people that need them.

Ghost in the Shell, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Gunslinger Girl

All 3 of those are masterpieces. The detail and atmosphere in Ghost in the Shell led to some of the most realistic and amazing world building and plot anyone has ever seen. Gunslinger girl is much less popular but is in no way any less masterful. They brought in actual operators to figure out how to draw the combat scenes. Simply fantastic, and heartbreaking story. Melancholy is simply a cultural revolution.

Not everything can be 11/10. I wish, but sadly not. You judge a lot harsher than myself but there is nothing wrong with that. You are going to miss out on the "really good but not perfect" market though which is vast. A lot of good treasures.

In other news: (minor spoilers)

SukaSuka - Holy. Shit. A show with a love interest that actually makes progress? Actually rating this 10/10. The good parts make up for the flaws and then some.

Danmachi Gaiden - I fucking love that minotaur fight. I'm glad we got to see bits of again. Also I wish Ais had borrowed from the Spice & Wolf giant wolf confrontation and begged to postpone that duel to rush to save Bell. Sadly it just kind of fell apart and was a bit of a "meh" moment.

RokuAka - I have no idea wtf this show is doing now. They had it in a really good place to end on an amazing duel where we would get to see the teacher whip out his actual military grade spells and kick that guys ass now that they gave him an excuse to stop using his magic negating ability but instead they tell us he runs away and leaves the girl? Fail. Probably going to deduct points for how this ends.

Angel Beats can only be entertaining on the most surface level possible; even the most cursory examination reveals that the show is 99% vacuous. One of the worst-executed premises I have ever seen in a work of fiction. Good music, though.
Patrolling Lore FC almost makes you wish for a Great Revision.

I watched it for Mikasa, since she was getting a lot of attention, especially by artists I like. I stayed for her too, I guess. I haven't watched the second season yet.

Been rewatching stuff whilst waiting for the next season:

- Utawarerumono (was nostalgic after playing the recently localised sequel, and subsequently replaying the older visual novel)
- Tsukikage Ran (I like to rewatch this every so often, for whatever reason)
- A Channel
- Non Non Biyori

I also watched Ghost in the Shell: Arise for the first time and it was much better than I was expecting. I should have watched it sooner.

As much as I love Atsuko Tanaka as Motoko, I felt that Maaya Sakamoto was excellent too. Though I'm biased since she voices one of my favourite characters in anything, Shinobu.

Attack on titan - Basically I like to think of the series as such:
Season 1 - Holy balls we're all gonna die and we have no possible way to win a numbers war against titans
Season 2 - We've got some power now but we are playing the game without knowing any of the rules and keep getting our asses handed to us because the other guys know exactly what is going on
Season 3 will be - We're figuring out most of the rules and can use some of our strengths now
Season 4 hopefully will be - Well informed, major strike/s. First big win?

King's Avatar - I feel like this story was all about the journey. Yes it was fantastic and beautifully done and drew me in but it kept a steady relaxed and fun pace. In 12 episodes they basically accomplished what attack on titan did in episode one, setting up the main characters to move towards the "big stage". There is nothing wrong with taking your time to tell a story, in fact I vastly prefer it for stories that have a lot to expand upon. The problem is they only had 12 episodes so the big cliffhanger is more of an upbeat "I'm excited for what comes next but if this is all I get then I'm also satisfied" kinda ending that doesn't motivate people to pick it up for S2. It's all warm and fuzzy with not a lot of emphasis on the main conflict.

Eromanga sensei - too fucking cute. The coincidence level of this episode was off the fucking charts though. Unless they expand upon the story more and reveal that what happened in this episode was what led to their parents meeting. Also mama Sagiri is completely amazing. It is funny how both parents are basically just aged up versions of their kids. The crossover was also on point but ffs let us know what pairing oreimo ended with!

I decided to watch Re:Creators based on some highlights I've seen like:
https://youtu.be/rFhzrCkqs_Y
and
https://s9.postimg.org/5b1rlpnen/image.jpg

because she's totally my type. No moral compass, clearly broken by something, playful, and totally insane. 10/10 best gril.

Anyways the show has a super interesting premise. The worlds in our anime/comics/books/games ect are real and are created by the authors. Then some characters enter into the real world and you get to see a lot of interesting things. For example different genres interact with each other like how a magical girl character from a kiddie show reacts when she finds out magical explosions actually hurt people and that they bleed. The premise itself is also very interesting because a lot of characters we love would obviously be outraged at us for considering them "entertainment" and the hell their creators put them through.

The show itself has a slow start, a lot of long but enjoyable conversations and warm moments (rewatching this show would probably be a chore) which conserves their budget so they can have some really nice action sequences. But then all of sudden (ep8 or 9) everything picks up and it is non stop bomb drops (only ep 11 is out currently). So far I'm really into it.

One thing I have to rant about is that when a giant mech appears the government decides to send in like 10 soldiers to capture everyone in the home. The second the mech moves they surrender. WHAT DID YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN? They had 0 way to deal with it short of nuking a city of people so why poke it with a stick when it isn't hostile? And at this point the gov was aware the characters were from fantasy stories so why the hell send in aggressive armed men and risk traumatizing a god like Haruhi or getting slaughtered by a macho op character like a demon or planet destroying level character like anyone from DBZ. Straight up retarded. Don't go looking for a fight you don't need to fight that you also can't win FFS.
