I've said it before and I'll say it again, horror just doesn't work in anime really. There are plenty of anime that have the "horror" label but I don't perceive them as such. There's really only one good example of horror in anime and that would be Perfect Blue. An honorable mention to Boogiepop Phantom since that was a tad creepy as well.

best horror anime is Pupa tho, cuz that **** got so bad I dropped it immediately

Didn't find any of those to be horrific, never seen Hadashi no Gen but I imagine it's not much different than Grave of the Fireflies. Maybe Paprika and Akira but they're just weird more than anything, not particularly eerie.

Well, I kind of expected it but it's still disappointing regardless, the Rewrite anime sucks.

It's like the studio is just skipping through plot points and introductions as fast as they possibly can without taking the time to construct a narrative with them or present the in a way that befits the story being told. By the 24th minute we've been introduced to almost all key players in the overall plot, each of whom has their own 'introductory event' which from a narrative point I would have considered indispensable, but nope, lets just churn them all out as fast as we can...

It's basically the same complaint I leveled at Little Busters, only this time they are taking the VN verbatim AND chopping stuff out. Likewise, stop with the game BGM already, you don't have to use it for every scene. At least they remembered to include the Key Coffee reference, that must be in the contract nowdays.


As for the ongoing commentary on the Horror genre, I have to agree that anime really isn't a great medium for horror. The best anime horrors tend to be the ones that combine it with other elements and just include the horror tag for it's themes rather than being overtly good as a result of horror (aka gore) in their own right.

Well lads, I'm taking a long flight in a few days and need some recommendations for halaal anime that satisfy the following requirements:

No women in lewd or immodest attire
No promiscuous behavior (either gender)
No magic (fantasy settings without magic are fine)
No depictions of heretical deities, spirits, or idols
No realistic depictions of the human form
No music

I'm considering rewatching Xam'd or Ping Pong, but don't suggest anything too weird because I might be sitting next to future coworkers. inshallah my brothers

What do you mean by "no realistic depictions of the human form?" Since you said Ping Pong I thought of alternative art styles for a second, but then there's Xam'd... I assume that was a reference to nudity then?

But idk dude, there's a lot I could recommend. Ever seen the Aria series? Future Boy Conan? Planetes? Area 88? Kaiba?
