I got a lot more sense of character complexity from Nao than just being able to type-cast her as 'the leader'. It's normally more evident when a character is just a pastiche of character elements to me, but I get the impression of Nao as being more of a person than that. The fact that I didn't actually like her very much at first helps affirm this notion, since it's very rare for me to 'come around' to a character and end up liking them when I didn't initially.

Yusa and Misa, well, they are one trick ponies so far which is pretty much why I didn't include any of my thinking on their characters. They only have one reason to exist so far same goes for Takojo.

As for Yuu and relatablility, It's worth noting that I don't 'relate' to characters, never have, i'm always a third party observer when it comes to media. As for his going along with Nao well, he isn't an idiot. While I do admit that he does seem a little bit to initially compliant with Nao's wishes, you can happily read that him not wanting to get his ass kicked all the time, since the first episode pretty much established that's what's going to happen. He's an opportunistic individual, he's going with what serves him best, and typically that's doing what Nao wants.

And as for Ayumi, I was making the point that it's a weak argument to criticize a character when that character is not a whole lot different from 'the standard', and at least executed in a way that does make her of service to the plot.

This is not the best Key production, not by a long shot (so far, not close to touching LB:Refrain (the game arc, not the ****** anime)) but I cant help think that your both jumping the gun on your judgement and expecting something in excess of whats on offer, because what's been served up so far really is not that different from prior fare.

My current plot prediction says that Ayumi's not dead, though that's not based on anything. Either way, whatever the truth is, it probably wont be what we expect.

Sides, you wanna see bad Key writing, try some of the parts of Rewrite. God that thing is a slog sometimes, and all that for the pay-off of 'you know what, F**k environmentalism'. Piece of writing advice, never try to villify your good guys and play the 'everyone an ass' card halfway through, doesn't work.

Tried Charlotte myself and I think I got to episode four or five. I've been hitting walls with most anime of late, except with Himouto! Umaru-chan, for some unknown reason.

I guess I'll try revisiting anime I haven't been able to stomach eventually when I'm in a better mood. If that's even the problem.

I've been surprised by Himouto's popularity. I don't really see anything new compared to Oreimo or Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu but I guess it is just this 'generations' closeted otaku anime.
