As for the fact, that is interesting. I figured that it wouldn't be frowned upon to show cleavage, especially with all of the fanservice in anime.

I assume that's another appeal of anime in Japan. They don't get it reality so they watch anime to see more of it.

Answer: Becasue they want their favorite pair of b00bs (or lack thereof) rendered in 3 dimensional polyvinyl chloride glory perched upon their desktop for them to ogle, fap to or otherwise gain lustful pleasure.

If some Jap wants to see a pair of ****, he isn't going to go watch a cartoon to get a few, brief glimpses. Fanservice sells merchandise, that's it.

And why do you think fanservice sells merchandise?

Your post implied that the popularity of fanservice was due to the ****** frustration of Japanese men. No average person is going to watch a cartoon purely for ****** gratification. The deviants who do that sort of thing are the ones who spend their entire income on figures/BD's/etc, hence the pandering. You can't make a sweeping generalization based only on the purchases of a small subset of viewers.

I dunno Icy, I would say it's something of a valid point. If what I understand of the situation in Japan is true, it's mostly those sme*ually frustraed deviants who are going to sit up until 3am to watch a b00b show, not your average salaryman.

I cant picture a proper Japanese gentlemen popping down on the couch and watching Highschool DxD or something, and beings like 'I am fascinated by the complex story and well-wrought characters in this piece of animated entertainment', can you?

And lets be totally fair here, some show's dont have any appeal BUT the provision of aforementioned sme*ual gratification. We'd be deluding ourselves if we didn't admit that for every half-decent anime ever made, there are two that exist just to please some fetish or another (be that sme*ual fanservice or some other vein of it).

Again, I must have bad eyes, because after rereading what I wrote, nowhere in there did I see myself making a "sweeping generalization".

Finished watching Psycho Pass, I loved it, and I can't wait for the second season and movie! Gah, don't you hate waiting for new seasons of any show?! I'm not that patient.

I know, I bought the box set just to try to be able to cope with the waiting.
