I've heard of Kaze No Stigma, I think I've seen an episode or two, is it actually any good? Realise I don't go for pure action(granted I don't mind it) I prefer anime with a touch o' love. Or some hidden understory that you don't realise until the end and then you are like "...D*** now I have to watch that again... not that that is bad"

Lol, it's got plenty of action, but it's also hilarious. There is some romance. I personally like the fact that the main guy character can control the wind. I rated it an 8/10.

No problem. I especially recommend Utawarerumono and Clannad.

Update on Kanon 2006: I've watched 10 episodes so far. The sad scene at the end of episode 10 just didn't have the same impact as Clannad After Story's sad scene.

that's probably a good idea....wouldn't want us to go into a mainstream anime argument would you not that that's ever happened before(looks at ground)

Anyways, I'll second Earnshaw's recommendations and add just a few of mine:

Angel Beats
Baccano
Chrono Crusade
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann


And I'll throw in a currently airing one, Kill la Kill, which (seeing as you seem to enjoy action) should be right up your alley.
