Even Jagex is guilty of this. Two main cases of this, they magic symbols in the chaos druid of Taverly was changed, as was Rasolo in DT. His orginal name was Rasool, Don't ever think the reason I am peaceful is because I do not know how to be violent.
Ekki hugsa alltaf að ég sé friðsælt vegna þess að ég veit ekki hvernig á að vera ofbeldi.

Tried playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but it's impossible for me to enjoy it with all of the differences between audio and subtitles. I might have been willing to give the English audio track a chance, if it weren't so awful.

It's mostly the changed names at fault, but then there are the toned down jokes and changes to characters personalities that also annoy me.

I wish I wasn't so receptive to localisations. I would be able to enjoy more games. Though if localisation teams would stop taking so many liberties, that would be better.

- Is this cultural appropriation?

I believe that freedom for gamers to vote through their wallets should be the rule. If you are offended by a content in a game, don't buy it - but don't censor it for the rest of the country.

- Does culturalization breed intolerance of other cultures?

Not really, but rather developers expect that their products will not be profitable in certain countries.

Does it breed hate through lack of understanding, acknowledgement and respect?

Hate is a strong word, but I see annoyance of gamers losing content due to localization changes.

- Is this censorship?

Yes, but it is self censorship by the developer - as they expect not to sell well in a country that have conservative culture.

- Does culturalization degrade the quality of the product?

Yes, as the original intention and message of the game is diluted.

- Is this a necessary part of game localisation?

I believe in vote with your wallet principle. I don't like whole sale changes of content, just because someone will get offended.

- Do you agree with it? Do you disagree? Are you indifferent?

Totally disagree, again vote with your wallet should be the norm.

I wholly agree with the sentiment of using your wallet to get your point across.

I generally don't buy many games anymore because of my issues with localisations.

Another issue I have is the lack of information. Games are a different experience from other forms of entertainment and it can be hard to tell whether you'll like them without first playing them.

I really wish game demos were standard.

That's why youtube gaming channels have high subscriptions and very popular these days. People watch gaming channels in youtube to determine their next game to buy.

Harpies and Fortune Ladies, among many other Yu-Gi-Oh cards, have been censored for nudity. Other cards have been censored for religious and demonic symbolism, as well as for violence. It seems the West needs to work on its gymnophobia and daemonophobia.
or nudeaphobia? i hate how it always shows nude guy butt but blocks the chix.

Western culture does seem more accepting of the male form than the female. I'm not knowledgeable enough to question why that seems to be.

However, I do know that it infuriates me when games with such content are censored.

This is why fan-translated games have cult following. Yes, it is a gray-area as far as it is borderline piracy -- but developers keep on ignoring this untapped market. I believe there should be straight port, with direct translation without censorship. Let the gamers vote through their wallet.
