There are many amazing games & anime that are Japan-only, sadly those quality games will never see a release outside of Japan because of conservatism outside that country.

Thank goodness, there are fun-subbers and fan-translated games - but they are done by passionate volunteers and cannot sub and translate all Japan-exclusive games. And translated games usually can only be done through a PC emulator, not all consoles have working emulators ----> the current generation of consoles will take at least 10-years more to have a working emulator: we are just in the verge of almost perfecting the emulation of the psp, ps2, gamecube and wii.

- Is this cultural appropriation?

Personally that description is meaningless: We ALL appropriate culture virtually everything we have "appropriated" from other cultures. Even language we change and take parts from other cultures and civilizations. You can't escape from it, to be honest people should be happy people enjoy things from your culture

- Does culturalization breed intolerance of other cultures? Does it breed hate through lack of understanding, acknowledgement and respect?

I would prefer people enjoy media and entertainment how it was designed and made, shouldn't be changed to suit other cultures through fear of offending. Offence is taken, never given.

- Is this censorship?

To a degree.

- Does culturalization degrade the quality of the product?

It can. Depends on the context. Some makes very little difference to be honest.

- Is this a necessary part of game localisation?

Nah.

- Do you agree with it? Do you disagree? Are you indifferent?

I'm mostly indifferent about it. I would prefer entertainment not be changed to suit the needs of the target audience but this is the way it is for now. People get offended so easily and cry so easily. In order for a company to be successful they must change to try to keep as many people happy.

The latest shenanigans in culturalization news:

Crunchyroll falsely advertising* a feature, and lying about not censoring their recently published title.

(*The false advertising, that they've now unlisted:

Looks like Crunchyroll deleted that video. Probably because it was illegal.
Though it just shows you their spinelessness. Garbage company.

(I re-uploaded the video, for documentation purposes -

Thanks for the video, Shiavui. I'm still for the industry to follow the customer's will. Customers should be respected by allowing them to vote with their wallet. Regardless of the content of their product, let it sink or swim depending on the consumer's demands without gov't intervention.

Agreed.
A person should be able to decide which sort of content they wish to consume and which sort of entertainment they wish to support.

Government intervention is extremely unnecessary when it comes to games, films, and other forms of entertainment.

Agony, an upcoming game, censored on consoles (and by default on PC):

The PC version will have a patch to remove censorship. We will see if they fulfil that promise.

On another note, Nintendo:
