It seems the West needs to work on its gymnophobia and daemonophobia.
It isn't just a problem for the West; for example, many movies don't get released in China because they're afraid of spooky ghosts.

Speaking of Pokemon, I hear that one of the gym leaders in Black/White had her apron left out of her original design because it was reminiscent of the mammy stereotype. And many anime have the Manji censored out because it's the Buddhist symbol of peace which was taken by the Nazis and used as the swastika. Prepare for hell on RuneScape in Naval Cataclysm!

Culturalization and censorship are definitely not problems only faced in the western world. Japan, China and Korea are known places where censorship commonly occurs. Nor is this a problem faced only be the games industry.

I can't speak for culturalization in those places, but it's probably safe to say that it happens world wide.

As for specific examples of censorship. The Censored Gaming YouTube channel is a pretty good source of specific cases.

Most recently a spanking/discipline scene in Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception was removed entirely.

Then there's pretty much every localised Nintendo title including but not limited to: Fire Emblem, Mario Kart, Xenoblade, Dragon Quest. All of which are censored.

The United Nations even proposed to place a ban on Japanese media containing sexual violence. Here are some responses to said proposals:

World Health Organization's ICD-11 draft:

http://www.who.int/classifications/ICD11January2017Newsletter.pdf?ua=1

Here is a video explaining it by Censored Gaming:

I think this is a serious concern for people that play and enjoy games going forward. I think it is linked to culturalization. I think that unless people speak up, it's only going to get worse.

World Health Organization are trying to classify gaming addiction.

Examples of censorship in western products include games like Call of Duty. Where Activision Blizzard have decided to censor the Swastika in recent and upcoming titles.

Germany and Australia frequently censor games too.

I could find and provide more examples, but I don't think it's necessary.

I personally don't think that what was censored was relevant, just that censorship is occurring at all is what I think is most important.

Of course, you are right. To use your example, China suffers from egregious government censorship, which is the worst kind, and not just in entertainment. My comment was a slight jab at Leftists who routinely label people homophobic or Islamophobic to suppress dissenting views while also complain about nudity in videogames. They label gamers sexist and misogynist for liking revealing costumes. Well, gamers could say Leftists are gymnophobes for hating such costumes. It was not meant to imply only the West experiences censorship.

I myself have left wing leanings, but I stick to the central side. Don't worry, not all lefties make everything they see and hear to be discriminatory and hateful. We should just do our research into cultures instead of blindly supporting or bashing them. Prepare for hell on RuneScape in Naval Cataclysm!

Not to worry, I wasn't accusing you of hating on the West exclusively or anything like that; just thought it was pertinent to chime in on the East as well.

Just so you know, I distinguish between Leftists and Liberals.

It's fine. I didn't think you were. I was just providing context for my comment.
