HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, has died at age 99.

Whether you love or loathe the BRF he was a remarkable man in many ways and led a remarkable life.

Personally, I'm a little upset maybe because he's always been there (as has The Queen) for all my life and it's weirding me out to think that he's gone now.

I rather liked the persona he presented to the world, including the very non-PC gaffes and outspoken opinions.

I'm sorry for the Royal Family....
Rest in peace Prince Philip.

I was surprised to hear that he had died even though he had spent a month in hospital recently. He seemed indestructable. :( He has been a steadfast companion to the Queen and someone she could lean on for many, many years. I feel so sorry for her because, no matter who you are, losing a loved one is devastating.

edit to add: I really hoped he'd reach his 100th birthday

RIP.

And yes, I agree with Megycal - it's sad that he died so close to his 100th birthday. For a man even more than for a woman, 100 is a rare milestone, and it would have been pleasing to know he had rounded off his life with that achievement.

Rest in Peace, Prince Phillip. My thoughts are with Her Majesty the Queen and her family. Losing a loved one is hard for anybody, but after a lifetime of service to his monarch, country and family, I can imagine his loss will be felt very deeply.

RIP.

I saw the news this morning. We weren't super surprised, and my mother was a bit sad about it too. He was her favourite.

After his recent hospitalization, I didn't expect he'd last much longer. I'm surprised he even made it out of the hospital tbh.
Arrr! Only th' Devil an' I know th' where'bouts o' me treasure, an' th' one o' us who lives th' longes' should take i' all.
