It's good you can show them and give them peace of mind
Where I live we now have proof of vaccination requirements for many indoor activities (e.g gyms, restaurants, theatres etc) which also gives others peace of mind.
But where I am we also have over 80% fully vaccinated so anyone who isn't is in a shrinking minority.
I’ve had many mates who are against vaccinations (not just COVID vaccinations). I’ve spent the last couple of years trying to find out why people are so against it. It turns out.. there’s a whole range of reasons! Each person have got their own reasons for not vaccinating.
I used to spend so much time trying to debate some of my anti-vaxxer friends. On a personal level, it was quite an important topic for me. It’s quite difficult for me that an individual could say “my body my choice” while choosing not to vaccinate their child, exposing their child to various health risks because of their beliefs. This was hard for me - considering that I do want to become a paediatrician one day. But I realised that the more I tried to present them with facts and statistics, the more they felt backed into a corner, the more like I felt I was pushing them further into anti-vaccination.
Then, I realised, choosing not to vaccinate was predicated on fundamentally one thing - fear.
When I tried to find out more from my friends of why they didn’t want to vaccinate, most of their answers demonstrated how different forms of fear surrounding vaccination had influenced their lives.
Reasons to not vaccinate included;
- not wanting to trust the government
- not wanting to trust any authority in general
- distrust in medicine
- distrust in science
- distrust in modernism
- trauma
For one of my friends, not only did I find out that his family didn’t trust medicine, but many of his people too. This was because their government in their country had experimented on their elders, leading to distrust in medicine, science, and the government.
Now tell me - what doctor, or what fact could ever remove intergeneral trauma, trauma that fuels distrust in medicine?
Your emotions are valid. It is a very human and normal thing to feel afraid. With the volume of information presented, especially at the frequency of novel information being delivered to us, it can be very confusing.
So if anyone who doesn’t trust the government, science, medicine, or doctors in general, I hope I can make them feel safe enough that they can at least voice their opinions, to not feel judged, to feel like it is okay to be scared, to be heard. I’m more than happy to walk this journey with anyone in discerning information, how we’re gonna interpret statistics and why, and hopefully arrive to a decision or conclusion that can allay some of your worries.

Inspire, to your specific post.. the rules of this forum bar us from discussing anything political. Ignoring the political element of your post..If I can ask you this question, what forms of healthcare, or medicine (or a rationality behind certain treatment processes) are you comfortable with and that you’re able to trust? Maybe we can unpack that more.
