Mostly would be form through common interests, but I do believe I have used the following 'methods' to make friends, both intentionally and unintentionally...

"Pick and Roll" - have a friend introduce you to your "victim" and go with the flow
"Smile and Wave" - say nothing, do nothing, look around, smile and wave to people who are caught looking at you
"Double Tap" - try socializing and ask for their contact point, chat back to them a few days later
"Head-On-Collision" - want to talk to someone? just talk
"Nice Boat!" - compliment others when they do something good or have 'cool' things

It normally begins with me by having an awkward conversation in person and then becoming comfortable with the person and begin talking to them on a daily basis. This is how it usually is for me, especially at the beginning of a school year and I have to sit next to them. :P

I've met most of my friends from elementary school but I only regularly hang out with a few of them. Most friends I know now are through that one best friend I've had since around fourth grade, we've known each other through basketball (3-4 of us, when I used to play) and now there's an additional 1-2 who we go out with.

I truthfully met most of my friends from social gatherings like playing Magic the Gathering every Friday night. So you could say I meet most of my friends from discussion on topics we are both interested in.

There are only a couple reasons why I don't befriend anyone. Though there was only one case were I stopped being friends with someone because they broke the laws constantly.

We don\'t have friends.

That\'s why we play Runescape.

Lol but although we play rs some have friends. I have a lot of friends, and I usually become friends with someone because I crack a lot of jokes and I'm friendly lol. Also, a lot of my good friends play
ed
runescape. But they noe play of I try convincing them for a while...

Who are you? Where are you from?

Lets just say... I'm Officer Friendly, from a little ways down the road.

Two people find some reason they work well together. They develop a relationship from that.

My best friend IRL is a fellow meganerd (and by that I mean academic nerd), so we kind of found ourselves thrown together.

My best friend in RS ran into me hacking people apart at the Duel Arena. We each met our match that day.

Of my 10 current friends (lol;_ ;) I met one of them because he ddosed me and another who ratted me. Other than a few I met from my clan the rest of them I probably met following an argument.

I argue a lot. Maybe this is why I have no friends.

Respecting each other for their differences, caring about the other unconditionally, willing to take the bad days with the good, and the main ingredient is trust.

How often I hear, " but they were my best friend! ". Well guess what, they really were not if they can turn their back on you or harm you. They never really were. A big difference between hang out buddies and real friends. ;)

That's why my friends are close. If they've already done the worst they can to me everything else is a + :P

yeah.. Ya know you gotta take the good with the bad. If we were all the same life would be pretty darn boring now wouldn't it? L0L ! But some your more drawn to than others, due to interests and such. There is a huge difference between acquaintances and friends, and then even " best friends ".

I myself have thought someone was a friend, or a best friend even, only to find out later it was one sided. The true test is in trust, and knowing that person has your back always, just like you do for them, even if you disagree on things.

I have even recently had some say, " so I guess we are not friends anymore " after they told me something that they knew would upset me. And my reply was.. " well, do you quit your family just because you don't agree? ". Of course we don't. ;) We work thru it. And respect we are not exact molds. And we are honest about it to each other. This doesn't just apply to dating, marriage, or any of those types of relationships. It applies to true friendship as well.
