I used to competively swim on my school's team and can say swimming is a great workout! Make sure to take advantage of the provided equipment if available (or bring your own). Fins and paddles will speed you up and help focus and perfect your strokes. Any weights and resistance gear will help build strength. And the buoys or boards can take over for your legs/arms if you want to focus on a specific muscle group.

Which strokes do you like best?

Id have to say Breaststroke, thanks for the advice on things to use :)

No problem! That's my favorite too :)

That's awesome. I've been a part of a swim team for ages and I love it. Water sports to me are better as opposed to land because you are moving against the water’s resistance, which much more powerful and limits stress levels compared to land sports. And it strengthened the heart and lungs.

Have fun and good luck :)

Nice! Swimming is great, works all of your body and I find it so relaxing

I used to swim competitively for my region in England, won 2 gold medals ;)

Now I don't swim competitively as education was more of a priority than training everyday :P But I still swim regularly

Checking back and the support is nice. :D

Sims.. I would suggest however, that 3's a week would really benefit you the most.

Never been a fan of lake swimming. We did it when I was younger, as a family outing, but too many snakes and bugs for my liking. But so many really do enjoy it the best. :D

I grew up on a beach and I got to say that is probably my favorite of all, cept you also got things there to hurt ya, Jellyfish are terrible. Its nice to look for shells, walk the surf, watch in the distance for ships and things, and just lay there and listen to the water. And if you got some decent waves taking a tube out and riding those can be fun. Playing in the sand is fun, even for adults. Looking for crawly things and all that.

They opened our pool as typical on the holiday weekend. I may go over there after folks get back to work. You got me thinking about it at least. ;)

Thanks everyone, it's been going rather well and I've been five times so far since starting the Saturday just gone (so that would be the 23rd of May), I went once on saturday, managed to swim a few lengths (while watching out for the water cannons that switch on sometimes for a few minutes) and use the slide as well as enjoy the occasional periods of waves from the wave machine, also swam through the tunnel area a few times where the current takes you in one end of the tunnel and out the other (And they have two waterfalls in the tunnel, a cold one and a warm one, guess which one's my favorite)

Tuesday was pretty much the same really except I gave the gym a go as well and the equipment there for arms/legs/abs is great, really handy and I can see myself using it a lot, that was all in my first session there, went twice tuesday because after my first session i had to go for work but wanted to check out the spa and sauna so that's why I went back again.

Wednesday was pretty much the same as my first session on tuesday but I also relaxed in the shallow end by the geysers (which are nice and warm lol) and went in the part of the pool with the massaging bubbles.

and today I went for five hours, time well spent and it was pretty much the same but more time to just chill in the pool as well since I didn't need to be anywhere after.

I'm next going again on Monday :)

I haven't swam in a few years now because of an incident where I very nearly drowned. I built up a little anxiety issue about deep bodies of water. I guess I'm incredibly rusty at swimming now but back then I was quite average at it.

I've been becoming more and more tempted to give it a go again, but the thing is I always swam for my enjoyment and didn't really care about the mechanics of fitness going on. It was super boring alone but with at least one other person I know, it was pretty fun. Sadly though, there's nobody I know at the moment I could really go with! But we will see.

Never actually swam in a lake either. But it does sound pretty fun!

Maybe you could tell one of your friends or family members you prefer to swim with someone else you know and see if they want to go for a swim with you :D
