We've been able to change so much about ourselves, but what if you could also change your race at the Makeover Mage? Costing 50k gold, you should be able to change your race! After completing Fairy Tale Part 3, for example, you should be able to turn yourself into a fairy. Completing Plague's End should unlock the elf race. Certain races also give boosts to certain skills too! Why stick with only the human race when you can be any other race? Here are the races I thought of so far:

Fairy: The masters of all things natural. In addition to farming and harvesting wonderful crops, fairies are also unmatched at all things magical.

Elf: None are as skilled with bows as the elf. They are also quite limber and excel at agility courses.

Gnome: Quick with their fingers, one should never leave their possessions in the open when a gnome is around. Their gnomish cooking delicacies are also to die for.

Any other suggestions for playable races are welcome!

Unfortunately the game made it so players can only be the world guardian if they're human. Lots of quest lines wouldn't work if you were let's say a dwarf or a gnome.

It's too late to do it now indeed.
Twenty-plus years of story designed for a human protagonist, adding other races would break the story and need a naw story, which would be severely lacking compared to the main story for a long while with less content for the human story.

I'm intrigued by the option of playing a non-human character. While not exactly what you've suggested, I can't have been the first to contemplate starting as a gnome in the Tree Gnome Stronghold, an elf in Prifddinas (I recall former Mod Osborne having joked about this on a stream), a dwarf in Keldagrim, or even a human in one of the Kandarin settlements.

As others have expressed, the issue is feasibility. As a default option, it wouldn't work with the story, but it could theoretically work as an alternate game mode. However, concessions would have to be made. Many, if not the majority of quests in the game would have to be disabled to prevent canon from being fundamentally compromised. However, any quest taking place after the Elder God Wars series would potentially be fair game, as these would not necessarily require the former World Guardian to be their protagonist.

My main questions would be:
-Would this add depth to the story, or would it simply be cosmetic?
-If different races were to have different abilities, how would this work with RuneScape's classless system?

In summary, I think this idea holds the most potential as a separate Jagex game. Is it ever to be developed, I would be interested in playing such a game.
