ok im not saying it cant be a skill, but right now you don't have enough for it to be a skill,(my opinion)
now, how about this:
a skill has its basics, and then it breaks down

so butchery:
gaining the carcass is quite self explanatory, but whats in the carcass has options
so why not have your butchery tools, a knife, a cleaver, a bone saw.now whatever tool you use determines what you get out of the carcass, so say you use the bone saw on the dragon carcass, you get something like dragon leg meat, and if you use the cleaver you get dragon steak, and if you use the knife you get dragon ribs

maybe you could get a chance at failing the attempt at getting what you want and that ruins the carcass(I think that was pointed out)

you could also possibly butcher right there and then, but butchering on a bench could raise your chances at success, and there could be a range of different benches that only raise chances with only the right tools. these benches can be made and upgraded in your POH.

you could also bring herblor into the skill as you could use potions or ground herbs to rid of poisons or disease from meats (like puffer fish, every1 knows there poisonous :P )

meats that have been butchered that need high levels to butcher could give massive amounts of hp, but would cost massive amounts of money.

carcasses cant be too easy to obtain, but not too hard to obtain. maybe a 50% chance of getting a good carcass and a 50% chance of getting a ruined carcass. or chances could vary. so say a carcass needs lvl 5 to butcher, there could be a 90% chance of getting a good carcass and 10% chance of getting a ruined 1. and for a carcass that needs lvl 70 to butcher could have like a 15% chance to get a good carcass.

------------------------------------------------------------
all of the above were only ideas and examples.

Great idea... Just saying though, you should be able to butcher with a chainsaw. And I think it should maybe be part of the cooking skill (Just because there isn't anough to do with it) It would add an extra step and alow more XP per meal. Maybe if it was, you would need a higher cooking level (say 80) to butcher (for example) a blue bragon carcas but to cook a blue dragon steak you wouldn't need as high a level (like 70). It would also help the economical result. People will trade more meats.

Mod crow said something about changing the drop system but what about when they added summoning It put charms in and changed the way drops where there but who said it had to change the drop system of the current in game monsters it would just add more monsters that are made for that butchery skill and besides it would just be part of a drop like dragons drop bones and hides 100% of the time so it would be similar to that. so instead of just bones and hides it would be bones hides and meat.

Mod Crow's comment:
"A butchery skill would have to replace the current drop system so that players gain meat through leveling their skill rather than through traditional combat. That would really mean everyone would need to work harder to achieve what is already possible unfortunately."
I believe this comment was specific to the creatures in the game that already drop meat, bones, and hides. I had used the example of wanting a dragon steak. With this in mind he is stating that, as present, dragons drop bones and a hide.
Adding a butchery skill to this would mean that dragons would drop a carcass that would need to be butchered to get the bones and the hide. Therefor "everyone would need to work harder to achieve what is already possible unfortunately."
I had hoped to see this skill implemented without changing the drops that are currently available, but just adding to them. My error was to use Dragons as an example as they would need to have the drop include bones, a hide, and a carcass that could be butchered into a cookable piece of meat, not a carcass that would be butchered into bones, a hide, and a piece of meat.
Mod Crow has never returned to this thread so am speculating on the meaning of his comment.

naa... i like the idea of a butchary skill... i think it would make an awsome addition to runescape skills... maybe the meat shouldn't be sold at ge... u can sell it to local chefs within runescape... or just cook it so it would be untradeble... the skillcape could be yellow... the emote could be (a table apears in front of the player... he takes out a peice of silver siny meat and butchers it)... the logo would be a piece of meat with a knife cutting through it... if the skillcape is trimmed then the sides would be red... i give full support to this!!! and hope that jagax would add this skill cause if they would i would love to get 99 in it... :) ;) :P :D ^_^ Moe
