Please bring back the option to have Permanent Ironman status removed from accounts. I understand that there would be a fear of hacked accounts having their status removed, but there must be some type of work-around for people that opted into the game mode years ago and no longer find it enjoyable. Maybe an original password along with a long wait time (3 months?) in which players would be be notified of the pending change, both upon logging in and by e-mail. I understand that Ironman players with 'Limited' status have been given the option to change to an Unranked Group Ironman status, but this update gave no alternative for Permanent Ironmen. I've tried a few times to have my status removed, and was told that it was currently not possible, but that my best bet was to post here suggesting the option be re-implemented. Creating a new account wouldn't be difficult, however co-ordinating wiith all the friends I've made over the years in order to keep each-other added on the new account would be incredibly difficult. Thanks for you time.

My point is that it what previously possible to remove the 'permanent' status through certain channels, and since the update introducing the GIM game mode, limited players now have increased flexible with the game modes they can play, whereas players with a permanent status have lost their way out. I think everyone that opts in to a permanent game mode does so out of fear that were they to be hacked their status could be lost. I don't see the issue with allowing players to opt out of a game mode that's viewed as more prestigious so that they can enjoy the game with less limitations, as long as reasonable time is given to revert the changes, and alerts are sent to the player notifying them of the pending changes. Obviously I've heard the "You should have thought about what permanent means beforehand" spiel before, but if there were previously channels that you could go through to have that status removed, then it wasn't truly a permanent game mode that I was opting into.

I see no reason for this to not be a thing. I agree, it was originally to prevent hackers from being able to de-iron our accounts. Nowadays, I think an option to remove it wouldn't be bad. Ironman isn't for everyone and neither is starting over from scratch again after all that hard work.

You said you don't ever want your account to be downgraded to a regular one. That should be respected by the game itself. Alone as an additional layer of protection against some malicious individual, that could access your account.

But of course - since things can change, I said it before, that customer support should assist players with that. But rudimentary as it is in RS, I doubt that will happen.

I did not say that I never wanted my account's status to be downgraded to a lower one. I opted into a permanent status as an extra layer of security, knowing that at the time I was doing so there were channels I could go through to have that status removed if I so desired. What changed is that those channels (tickets) are no longer able to be used to remove a permanent status. My mindset was always that I was opting into the status with the belief that those channels would remain and that if I felt it necessary I could have the status removed. The change did not come from my end, but from the game's end by removing the channels players used if they no longer wished to continue as ironmen. I have seen many other posts with similar sentiment, so I know I'm not alone in wishing to see this change reversed and the ability to have permanent ironman status removed through tickets re-implemented.

That's really not the point. The point is that it WAS removable through tickets for years and now suddenly permanent is actually permanent. If you search 'permanent' in these forums you'll see many others who had the same mindset I did when it came to the permanent status who are now trapped in a game mode they no longer wish to play

Right. That makes sense going forward, but I don't think it's fair to the players who opted to be 'permanent' before, knowing that it wasn't actually permanent, for it to now ACTUALLY be permanent. The players that had opted into it before the changes were made should have an opportunity to opt out. Maybe through re-implementing the ticket system for it, or maybe through a one-time dialogue players could go through where they could either opt out or choose to remain permanent ironmen.
