It was somewhat easier to get rares but very easy it never was.
It would still take like 200 hours of skilling the most profitable skill or 100 hours of doing the most profitable boss to buy the cheapest hat. This is now about 1000 hours of bossing i think so in that way they have become much harder to get.

The high price of rares sort of has made many activities meaningless for me. Like i would be happy to make 10m with some skilling activity but then i look at hats and i see its not even a drop in the ocean and that 10m might as well have been 1000 coins.

Its not even that i want to get rich from skilling (i am far beyond the point of caring about how much i make as long as its 900m a year to buy premium membership). Its just that i want to have some sense of progress, some sense of purpose. Like when i did 300 hours abbysal rc for my first white hat. It was a lot of work but i did like it,it was fun and it gave me the feeling of making progress in the game. It gave me the feeling of beeing relevant for the economy of the game. Selling the runes on forum and doing player player trades every day.
This sense of progress and purpose is lacking for me now when it comes to skilling,it really is only the xp grind that is left. Only the highest boss would give a sense of progress though even that would be 1k hours for a hat.

During balanced trade it was easy i have to admit. But you had to flip in ge and most players couldnt do it. There was not much competition with flipping yet and due to many players quitting there was a large amount of rares on the market. It was a rather unique situation.

H Rassy,

If you had best gear + maxed stats (from portal slaying), gwd1 was very good money. Higher drop rates than now. You had to use a trust system though before ls/cs. The people I went with were making outrageous amounts. Even D boots were 5m each from slaying, if not risking at the bosses.

I made weapon poison++ when farming was newish, had people working for me supplying ingredients, very good money. I’d sell them bulk to people making d dagger++. I made a lot of them, but I didn’t put in the time like people do today, especially with how players use multiple alts at once now.

85 slayer: bank. Camp abbies. Barrows was good money when it came out, but I was too chicken to try it then. TDS were good money, claw drops. Double nats was insanely tough to reach, won’t count that, but legendary bank made if achieved.
I cannot for the life of me manage to catch Covid. Perhaps it's because I didn't get vaxxed? The travails of those lacking immunity. :(

I didn’t do well during restricted trade, couldn’t make junk. Could earn mint cakes and edibles. I cannot for the life of me manage to catch Covid. Perhaps it's because I didn't get vaxxed? The travails of those lacking immunity. :(

You did 300 hrs rc… I just got 99 when runespan came out.

I might have picked coconuts and ivy berries a lot, but that’s fun. You log in every so often, pick money, log out.

I remember Corp beast having some tricks to it at times. But I didn’t profit from it. Lots of opportunities over the years. I only started playing regularly when clans came out. Otherwise, I’d log out until an update would create an opportunity.

Lvl 85 slayer: 3 300 000 xp. 30k/hr x 110hrs = lvl 85. Lvl85 = phats overflowing.

I’ll be back in a few days.

I had thought Santa really hit 50b, but I hear it’s sub7b. Happy days. I might quit merching and just hold whatever I end up with. Merching wastes too much time. If I had wanted infinite phats, I should have just gotten 85 slayer and sold 1 whip a day for several years. A fish mask is all one truly needs, at the end of the day.

before suitybot i used to spend alot of time on the forums and in w2 to get a decent price for an item, feels kinda fun to figure it out myself again. i think the suitybot is really good but ive gotten rusty because of it, having to type .pc <item> is way easier than watching the w2 for 3 hours while watching the forums pcs. trusting certain pc lists or prices of items or websites that dont belong to jagex will get you into trouble notice: external websites and trades are your responsibility, dont get fooled!.

Well, you can afford the risk, I am referring to players that pvm for months and save up for a rare. Just saw some posts complaining that they bought a Santa for 8b and now it's down. I'm guessing many are throwing in their small banks trying to profit off the fluctuations, which is fine but then they panic sell later on or complain that they lost money lol.
