I hid a post for flamebaiting, and some off-topic banter. Just a reminder to please keep it respectful please. We can disagree with the ideas of others, but shouldn't be making personal attacks or insults...

According to todays youtube stream, Jagex are doing significant changes to the economy. They are going to raise max cash and the numbers in pouch to about 4,6 quintillion max cap (in practice remove ge limit), and make a tax on all ge transactions by 1 %. That 1 % value will be removed from the game. And it will be about 10 % death cost of todays death cost.

This will finally get rid of the problem with trading big values and rares. You are incentiviced to do p2p trade, to avoid paying ge tax.

What do you think to the upcoming changes?

Sounds like some great changes to me. This will benefit the Runescape economy in the long-term. It sounds like players can still utilize p2p trades if they want to strike deals for larger trades to avoid the tax. The 1% tax will definitely help to slow down inflation, assuming no massive coin drops or alch changes in the future. Truly, these changes were long overdue in my opinion.

I think this will slow down the acceleration of discontinued prices in the short-term. In the long-term, however, I think the direction is still very clear...

Would hate to see old OG phats or rares released , would ruin the game imo. The new GE tax would help tackle inflation though. Hope they dont play too much with the ideas.

I cant see this happen. They would then intervene with the players own demand and supply naturally set by the players. Having a rare is in it self is not necessary.

The big question is… Would it be smart to try sell our higher rares for as much as we can now and buy back cheaper later?

Are highers gonna crash between now and the release of this new system?

We know lowers did. RSH was 4.2b+ last night and today were being mass sold for 3.7 and went as low as 3.6b. However, they seem to have bottomed at 3.6b.

H’weens dropped also but not as aggressively. I think the high volume/hoarding of RSH caused the panic as the hoarders didn’t want to be stuck with RSH’s.

I did see some people today trying to sell their Phats and BSH/Holly etc, but not as many as I thought I’d see.

Please share your opinions on this topic.

Many years ago I made a forum thread "Partyhats in 64-bit Runescape" dealing exactly with this and so here we go. Though it would come sooner but at least sometimes than not at all.
Everything, ranging from sub-atomic particles to galaxy clusters, has its dynamics predefined. And then there are people claiming that systems like economy, society or other human sub-systems are in our hands.
