It's been lately discussed that there may be some kind of re-introduction of old partyhats (and possibly other rares from the first rare items generation = up to a santa hat) in near future. I have always opposed re-releases of any seasonal / holiday items (= issuing new volume of the same already in past discontinued item).

Should it ever come into effect, like for example with already mentioned partyhats, especially due to their very low available supply that makes them prone to further deliberate price manipulation, it could be done by taking them manually from permanently banned accounts and creating a temporary store where the hats would be sold for RuneCoins. Of course, only those items that are already in game, but gone for the given reason.

I think this option could be attractive for Jagex, especially for the opportunity of possible real profits. It could also solve the problem with currently abnormally hyped prices (far beyond the inflation of other items or bonds) as the volume of actively circulating items would be increased by the reintroduction from inactive accounts.

This is an interesting suggestion. Alternative option would favour those with oddments saved up and those who can login right after daily reset (mostly americans). Maybe limit each account's chances at obtaining the rares removed from permanently banned accounts to how many daily keys they get for free per day. Then everyone has a chance. The temp store could be nic at his corner of the ge.

If phats from banned accs were sold for runecoins, then it'd have to have a minimum high cost in runecoins that'd limit the purchasers to already well off people. Maybe instead of that, make it so whenever a player buys a consumable from sgs for runecoins, they have a small chance at also obtaining a random color of rare from a banned account and all players only get 1 chance a day. This way everyone buying rc for a chance at a phat has a equal chance.

I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on this for sure.

Jagex making money from players is sooo attractive, maybe they can sell me my poh or charge rl money to use a boss kill. Maybe everytime I loot something from a clue scroll I have to pay jagex so they can fine dine

Games dead when the player base wants to pay for stuff

I guess all the mtx hates reversed these days

I only log in daily for challenges, and I've never seen a stream, discord, nor much from social media etc.

However, I'm pretty sure Jagex hasn't discussed releasing og rares.

The game is super fun, and I'm stoked about recent, upcoming updates; but I have no time. Old player base means no one has any time. So, I dunno that the game is "dead"; we're just old.

Old people have money; kids have time, well, unless the kids aren't spoiled rotten. "Stay off my lawn!" I cannot for the life of me manage to catch Covid. Perhaps it's because I didn't get vaxxed? The travails of those lacking immunity. :(

We cant all be winners. And that's fine. They wont re-release them, there's no need to, their appeal would drop if they did and that would defeat the point. The ability to trade them on the G/E will reduce 'word of mouth' manipulation but it wont get rid of it. There'll still be 'street value' prices for some items (unless they limited them G/E-only, which I doubt they will). The plan is to get a better idea of the actual worth of an item exceeding max-cash, that's all, no need to over-think it. They'll still be super difficult to obtain. Inflation will still exist and items will continue to trump gold over time; as long as there are players playing, not much will change. Bringing out new rares and new bosses with new sought after loot is a better way to promote continual play and give players a chance at saving up for partyhats and what-not. Punishing veteran players in favour of newer ones would be self sabotage IMO. Especially when a lot of our player base stick around for the nostalgia, it'd be a real kick in the teeth. And whilst I don't agree with a lot of what JAGEX do, even they aren't that stupid! :P

Let's entertain that thought for a moment though, if they were to re-release them, what would you deem acceptable? 1x (of each colour) partyhat per year, at christmas? 1x (of each) h'ween mask at halloween, easter egg at easter, etc? how about 10x or even 100x. Even adding 1x per year would depreciate them. We've seen how fragile rares are, any mention of them by official sources and players panic. Why would they risk that, for the sake of 1 person getting lucky, the rest have to lose wealth? I don't know. I think they ought to go back to releasing limited untradable rares, less of this 'consolation prize' junk (where you can get previous holiday items from debut events you didn't attend). New content > re-releases. IMO Bob says:

if they ever introduced these on solomons general store than it should be capped at one per ip address. that way you don't have someone trying to buy multiples of them from the store.

Or they can just make them like every other override as why would you buy more than one?
