I personally wouldn't support the Rune Coins or Oddments ideas - but it's going to be interesting to see what Jagex decide to do in order to 'fix' the discontinued item price 'problem' which they acknowledged in their economy video.
I do think that there are categories of accounts which should have their discontinued items removed and re-introduced into circulation:
- accounts created specifically to abuse bugs within the duel arena to gain an unfair advantage
- RWT mules/general RWT accounts
- Lurers
These are 3 basic categories whereby people have made poor decisions to unfairly gain discontinued items, taking from others who have legitimately worked hard to achieve their wealth. If these people didn't make those poor decisions to begin with, there would be a naturally higher supply of discontinued items today. And, therefore, a naturally lower price.
It seems wrong to me that these items should be removed from the game due to poor decisions of a subset of people, when they are caught and banned - and if their accounts are ever unbanned, they should not be allowed to keep that wealth.
Jagex have already said they're going to look at the discontinued item price 'problem' - and this would be a natural way to bring the prices where they're supposed to be if those people did not unfairly gain their discontinued items and then get their accounts banned.
Once they've increased the GE cash cap, they could re-introduce them via GE in a controlled way. It would remove trillions of gold from the game, whilst slowly bring the price of discontinued items down to where it should be - fixing two issues they're currently working on.
That may not be the best way, but if the over-inflation is due to low supply, and a contributing factor of low supply is due to people's poor decisions to exploit legitimate players and having their accounts banned - it kind of makes sense to re-introduce those back into the game, as they shouldn't have been removed in the first place.
