Thanks Tufty! He edited it clearing all this up!!

So All Santa's amd All Hweens are discontinued at current time. I and I'm sure everyone appreciates this greatly. Please tell Wildcat tyvm if you talk to him.

Happy to help.

All's well now. ;)

Have fun. ;)

So green santa is discontinued permanently as well if I understand you correctly? Was this determined by Forum Mods only or also with input from Jmods?

Furthermore, the probabilities of the Treasure Hunter (specifically found this out about Santa's Grotto) are broken. I already submitted a bug report and tagged Jmod Jack about it, but if you could ask/post about it to Jagex as well that would carry much more weight than me asking. With n=2800 keys I determined that purple paper prize is not 0.075% chance and that purple skilling dummies are not 0.003%.

Thanks in advance Tuffty and thanks for helping the community out!

I kind of like the mystery of what is disc and what is not. It keeps people on their toes and is healthier for the community.

If jagex were clear in their statements and answered the questions posed here then there would be nothing left to argue about in Item Discussion.

Some mystery is okay, however if Jagex goes 10 years without rereleasing the Green Santa hat for example, and then decides to rerelease it, that will make players upset. The best solution to combating the rise in price of discontinued items is more discontinued items. This way players can build their wealth overtime holding a portion of their wealth in discontinued items(BIS Fasionscape), which would sync with both inflation spikes and rareflation drops, When new rare or discontinued items are introduced, they typically lower or stagnate discontinued items prices across the board for a period of time.

Definition: Rareflation= "The increase or decrease of rare and discontinued items, which have an effect on the greater Discontinued item market".
Explained: When new discontinued items enter the game, it expands the pool of discontinued items, eventually reducing the cost of them overall, or at the very least stagnates higher priced items. When new "Rare"(-Jagex) items come into the game, they may cause discontinued items to fall or stagnate temporarily, but upon re-release of these "rare" items they fall and faith in these "rare" items is lost, then people turn back to officially discontinued items, strengthening the already strong discontinued item market.

I am an advocate for investing both in game and IRL. I see being able to invest in safe assets in game as a good thing for players as a whole. When players can invest in game, they can invest in confidence knowing they can buy a disc. item, take a break, and come back knowing their wealth will still be relevant when they're ready to return.

I have no idea about Green Santa hat as Jagex has never confirmed to my knowlege anything about it being discontinued. So unless that came from Jagex and can be proven I'd be a bit sceptical about rumors or heresay. I'm not saying it's Not or it IS discontinued I'm saying I have no idea as it's not on the thread on the RuneScape Trading Directory thread.

Here is a Quote from Mod Hooli 1 year ago. This may help.

Mod Hooli

Just a little added note on this as well - we've seen a lot of questions about the Green Santa Hat and (understandably!) a lot of you wanting to know if this is a one time only opportunity to get it.

Unlike the Golden Party Hat, this isn't something we're saying is a get it now or miss out forever moment - we're definitely open to it returning in the future around Christmas sometime.

We haven't got concrete plans to share on when that next moment is or how often it will appear beyond that I'm afraid, but hopefully that gives you some peace of mind for now!

And posts by random Jagex employees (here today, gone tomorrow) on Reddit won’t do it. I’d like a clear statement from Jagex listing the items which are discontinued. And then somewhere permanent where we can check the status of items, e.g. on the Grand Exchange (in game or on the website, or both).

They seem to be trying to use the ambiguity as a method of combating the spiralling prices of rares. That is not the answer. In a way, Jagex is to players what the Bank of England is to banks and traders – when he was governor, Mark Carney often talked about the importance of making clear and accurate statements in advance, so as not to spook the markets. It seems to me that Runescape merchants are now in a permanent state of “spooked”, which for most people is not fun (I appreciate a minority find it exciting).

Runescape was famous for its free market controlled by the players. Basing the economy on hearsay and meddling just ruins it.

Its pretty clear they intentionally keep them lower because they feel its their duty to keep them "affordable". For all we know they have been rereleasing these items for years without telling anyone which i wouldn't find surprising.

We have no power over them.

We could try to organize to oppose them but I certainly dont have time for that. If someone makes an anti jagex discord or twitter community invite me please.

Agreed, social media is a great place for Jagex employees to interact with players, find out what we like/don't like, and have conversations, but I feel official Statements about the game have not been communicated as well as they should be, and should be done through a news post on the
Runescape website.

I really like the idea of having somewhere in game, like at the Grand Exchange, somewhere to display their Discontinued status. Personally, I find Discontinued items to be fascinating, and part why I love this game so much, to me it feels like owning a piece of in game
history
. I think it could inspire new players who might not know about Discontinued items to set getting one as a goal.

The best way to control the Discontinued item Market, in my opinion, is a larger selection of
highly desirable Discontinued items.
Ambiguity only works until the mask comes off, and we find out that an item is actually totally worthless.

question of this thread is

*should pay to win items be a good investment or risky*

traditional rares were never sold, so it means you think its changed
the only recent item thats legit retired is gold phat but with 100ks of them

they should add all pay to win items to drops from giant mimic

I disagree, however I think all tokens released should be given a predictable lifespan. Simply put, one year after release, cosmetic overrides derived from tokens should be added to the ODDMENT store. Jagex has said in the past they wanted to reduce currencies, but at the same time they're removing currencies, at the expense of players, and then going against their word and adding more currencies anyways. The Oddment store is pretty lacking nowadays, especially if you're an Ironman(Source: I am a HCIM with over 150k useless oddments). Remove seasonal hoddments and heartments to allow Ironmen to get the same rewards. Remove Yak coins and put everything back on the oddment shop, or at least don't make them expire and consistently use them in every yak track.

Physical items won from Treasure hunter are a different category of item since they are tradeable. @Jagex should allow all treasure hunter items to be traded directly to Ironmen , as well as bought on G.E; much like how FSW items were allowed to be given. As for their status, for Jagexs sake, they should be given a lifespan announced on release. Not 100% sure what they should do with physical items, some I assume they will keep one time release, but it should be announced if that is the case(create hype), and if not, then perhaps added to mimic drop table after 1-5 years after its initial release. It would be better than constantly rereleasing the same item over and over until its basically worthless. I could see adding items to mimic while they're still holding some value could be worth it. At the same time mimic tokens are rare, so it wouldn't be a viable method for ironmen to unlock these cosmetic items unless they would add mimic kill tokens to the oddment store, which could be an integrity issue since they drop scrimshaws. Maybe the day Irons can finally participate in DXP is here though.

If you read the entire thread actually you would see Tufty Never said or determined anything about GSH or other rares. ALL he did is Point to the only place We should all be paying attention to which is the Official Jagex thread which says what is discontinued or not. He linked the thread and assisted in clearing up some grammar errors on that thread which also made the thread current which is updated by an actual JMOD.........
