I just died at the safes in Rogue's castle and had to pay 13k gp to reclaim my items. The exact same inventory cost me over 500k earlier this day, before the update.

(Sidenote: apparently the volcano shard can one-shot you lol)

Seems like the death cost nerf will slightly make up for the upcoming GE tax.

My take on this is that, when this panic is over, rares should still remain valuable and would be a good investment - even if the new "max cash" would be in the quintillions (9,223,372,036,854,775,807 gp)

Owning a discontinued item that also holds prestige would be better than sitting on a massive cash pile when there's always inflation.

And when high end players achieve their max gear, they'll want something else to go with it. Dyes, rares, third-age, you name it. For most players this would ideally be a black santa or party hat.

Seeing there is no upper cap on tax like oldschool(5m), once the max cash limit removed the tax will be biggest money sink ever in game. hopefully it will heal the game from all the dupes happend.

i predict a backfire in this GE taxing as solving the real problems of the game which was rares sucking the life out of it. This will just further the wealth gap because the wealthy will not use the GE and everyone else in the game will. All this will do is speedy the Gap that was already happening from the rare market sucking the life out of the game at a steady pace. Now it's going to go in high gear and the majority of the folks in the game will just constantly lose their coins. I hope Jagex has better plans than this to attack the rare market.

If they accidentally enter deflationary state in the game at some point, it would not really change much other then large selloff at the beginning into large buy orders once prices are compelling since there is really no real economic system inside the game like debt that would cause issues.
I think rares do what they always did. Peoples who have excess GP will continue to hoard them because there is literally zero reasons to hold gold if it's on delta+ and maybe margin on some more common goods might get bit tighter especially those that were overpriced by manipulation.

If grand exchange had some sort of item "burn" system then entering deflationary state sometimes could be usefull since it would allow to make peoples sell their hoarded stuff into market and then the game could remove portition of those items into gold to create artificial demand especially in things that are not bought due to low playerbase
