After the zombie re-release so many were asking for partyhats to be rereleased, i guess they are throwing this at them. Golden party hat might even be more popular, but depends on how it looks in comparison to yellow.


To secure your Golden party Hat you'll need to both
"be a RuneScape member"
and obtain 8 of a possible 11 shards[ spread across the game.

"One shard is given with Premier Club 2022 membership purchase."


Nice way to boost up subscriptions lol.

And for those thinking this will be the last time this happens, I'm sorry to say you will be proven wrong ;p.

Yeah, I could see it being either way, the art for the golden party hat hunt post depicts a more traditional partyhat with gold paint, but in the picture for it in the ge (further down in that post) we see a more tapered bottom end hat used for decoration. Upon closer inspection we see in the banners in the ge the more traditional hat again. I think it'll be a faithful remodel, looking similar and still cool but leaving the old hats still distinct. We've seen them do the chromatic partyhat which while not really a remodel and only a flip upside down and recolor, still sets it apart from the old hats. I just would expect more than a yellow partyhat with it's color tuned a little. Maybe even some particool shiny-ness.

I think this is a terrible idea, not because of price of old tradeables. But simply because it ruins aspiration, most peoples long term goal is to own a party hat. Something that is achievable, albeit with an awful lot of effort. Now a party hat is being gifted to them on a plate. PHat? oh got one of them now, might as well quit..
As for price of old rares, well they will always be the hardest to obtain and will certainly hold an out-of-GE price. Its almost contradictory because you could say aspiration is still there for the harder to obtain ones. I do see the Jagex logic, but I fear generally speaking players are less complex than that, and aspiration will be ruined.

My comment is based on the news just revealed to us. Nothing is taken for granted. But for now, everybody will own a phat. That shape in the head of every single player will devalue the phat price as it is not unique anymore. But for the foreseable future, santa hats will be "rarer"... at least in shape.

If you are a player that want to show off uniqueness, then phat won't be as valuable as say... a santa hat or even halloween masks.

Guessing price will be around 400-475m by the end of the event. Towards the end the price wont change much in the last few days because you will have both players trying to finish up making it last min and you will have players re buying after selling early on for 1b+. Thus kinda evening the price in the 400s.

They did mention they wanted to make it iconic, so i would assume making it a "2021 version" would take away that element to a degree.
When comparing it to the Yellow Partyhat, they only mentioned that it's easily distinguishable from the Yellow due to its colour, nothing about the style.

Of course we will only find out when it gets released or maybe they will show it on the next stream.

I feel like it’s gonna be a legit replica but just shiny gold.
Kind of cool I guess. Surely it will have some effect on actual PHAT prices as it will lower demand now that lots of players pushing hard to afford/obtain a real PHAT will now have something to settle for.
They will be plentiful, they WILL be hoarded. So if you’re smart and earn one, just hang on to it. Just remember, all of the rares today started off cheap. People were flicking off BSH’s when they were released for 200m, and they’re now 25B. I know the Golden PHAT will be far more plentiful, but over time with player hoarding, it will still be worth something nice.
